Do we have animals in the city?
Birdnest
We built a nice fluffy nest for birds with some shredded brown paper, yoga mat and egg cartons. Touching them and feeling different textures was a good way to learn for toddlers. K and N were happy to build a house for birds! We also put colorful bird-cards in the nest. E was focused on matching birds and made a beautiful line.
“What is hiding here?”
At the other table, we had a tray full of branches, flowers and pinecones. We found some bugs such as a grasshopper, a ladybug and a dragonfly there! They were hiding just like bugs in our city. We used loupes to look at them. Looking at things through a loupe was interesting. Some friends took loupes from everywhere in the classroom and had fun with it. N learned taking a loupe away from an object makes it look larger and tried it many times. By looking at what N’s doing makes other friends interested. L also tried it and proved she was right.
Building “our city”
K, T, A, L and N were busy thinking about which car we need for our city. They decided we needed a police car, a fire truck and some buses. Sometimes they wanted to use the car which friends were using. When they put out their hands to show friends that they want to use it, some of them just handed over the toys without saying anything. There were also trains which could take us to the zoo. K and N were interested in animals in the zoo, they picked some animals and had a close look.
Circle Time
We started the circle time with our favorite songs, “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Open Shut Them”, “The Wheels on the Bus”. Imitating teachers’ actions for songs is sometimes easy, sometimes difficult. But we love to move our body to the beats so we are trying. Teachers also introduced a song called “Clap Your Hands”. We clapped our hands, stomped our feet and even wiggled our ears with that song! After we said good morning in a big voice to each other, we introduced ourselves to our new friends, T, A and N. A teacher was holding a microphone and asking names, most of the friends were being shy but some friends enjoyed talking to the microphone!
This week we are going to learn about “Animals in the City”. Today is the first day of the week, so we thought together what kind of animals we could see in the city. We pretended to walk around in the city to find animals and took yoga poses of each animal. We saw a dog and a cat on the street, we saw a bee and a butterfly around some flowers. It was fun to run around making buzz sounds. At last, we pretended that we went to the zoo and danced to the song “Let’s go to the zoo”.
Play Time
We talked over snack time and chose to have play time today instead of water play due to the weather. N and K were trying to build a tall tower with big LEGO blocks. When it got higher than them, it was challenging for them to make it taller but they were laughing and saying OH NO! when the tower collapsed.
L and A enjoyed playing with cars again. Having a city mat makes it more interesting, they were thinking about where they want to put each car.
We also made a playing area on the balcony. K, N, E, T, K, N and K were busy pulling all the balls out of the tub. They found different ways to play with the balls; throwing, kicking, lining them up and so on. It’s always good to see children find plays by themselves and learn through play.
We hope you have a good start of the week!
Love,
Buds Class Children
