Rapunzel Tower
Free Play
We made wonderful lanterns for tomorrows Tanabata festival. We folded paper and cut lines to make the sides of the lantern. Then we decorated it with different materials. The Knex were also out because some of our friends saved the houses they made yesterday. Something we love doing with the Knex is to see how long we can make it. We also made a lot of snowflakes as well. On the floor, there were furniture out and colorful translucent blocks. We used the blocks to build mountains and towers. The translucent blocks were also fun by themselves. We put them to our eyes and went in the garden to see the world in different colors. We kept working on the 500-piece princess puzzle and read books in between play.
Show and Tell
After snack time we finally had our show and tell for the other two towers. We decided who would go first by clapping our hands and stopping our feet. The loudest tower would get to go. There was a lot of noise for A, M, K, A, and M’s tower. The group work turned into class work as we switched from group to group. This is what they said:
M: We made a tower to get Rapunzel.
A: We made a slide and cushion, so she won’t die.
A: I made a chair
M: I helped this part, cut the slide with Karen
A: I didn’t work with the ropes, so we made a slide that doesn’t need hands.
After their show and tell. There was a big discussion of who would take the tower home. They talked about who had the biggest house would take it but then decided to split up the tower by parts.
The second tower was Y, A, K, and R. Y said he made a zip-line. A made the elevator. There were two zip-lines. Our friends wondered if it could work. It turns out that Rapunzel that we made doesn’t have hands. She needs hands to hold something. So, we’ll need to fix Rapunzel before trying this tower.
Otter, Fish and Heron
Since we stayed inside today, we learnt a new game to get our bodies moving. The goal of the game is to take the fish that was in the middle of the circle from the heron. The heron is in the middle trying to protect the fish from the otters. All the other players beside the heron are the otters. The otters had to take the fish and move outside the circle to have dinner. If the heron touches the otter, then they must go outside of the line to try again. If the otter can carry the fish out of the circle, then they can be the next heron! It was an extremely fast-paced game and a good workout. It took us a few rounds to understand how to grab the fish. Sometimes we must work together to distract the heron so we could comeback from the back. By lunch time we still wanted to keep playing. Maybe we can play some other time! Hope you had a wonderful day and got some fish!
XOXO,
