Our City Helpers

This week, we’re talking about how we can protect and help our city. Of course, the first topic that came to mind was the community helpers. It would be exciting to know more about them and what they could do for our city.

Puzzles, Trains, and Cars

After doing our morning jobs, we were proud to show our teachers how well we could do things on our own now. It was so easy to take our shoes off and put away our communication pouches and backpacks on the hook. Then, we went straight to our snack tables and ate our early meal time. It was a lovely meal as we showed our onigiri, cookies, and some cereals we brought to school.

We found some puzzle pieces on the floor that we could work on together as a group. At first, it was a bit challenging because we were trying to do smaller pieces rather than the bigger ones that we usually worked on. However, when we tried putting them all together, we started by categorizing the colors and worked to connect the same patterns until…tada! We did it!

There were also some train tracks that we connected. We created a big station and moved the trains on the rails. It was lovely to see how we could pretend to be architects and engineers in the classroom. Another thing is, we also had some amazing vehicles that we could experiment with as we tried to understand how we could make our city more interesting and fun to live in.

Circle time

We gathered around the circle and started singing our morning songs. We also had some special requests, and today, we sang “Twinkle, twinkle little star” and “Old MacDonald had a farm .”We also tried saying the different animals with their sounds.

We also read “I need a new bum” by Dawn McMillan. It was a funny story and a nice book for understanding more of our body parts.

As part of our discussion regarding protecting our city, our friends pretended to be firefighters that put out the fire. We also put a barricade around us to be safe from the fire.

City helpers are significant members of our society, and we talked about the different occupations that can help and contribute to everyone’s benefit.

Hence, we talked about the vehicles they use, what they do for our community and what we want to become when we grow up.

Trip to Grocery Store

We went to one of the nearest grocery stores in the neighborhood. We went to DAIEI! We loved looking around the store, and some of us requested to buy some special crackers that we could take to school. It was a nice experience for all of us to get our food and pay at the cashier. The automated cash register was fancy because we inserted the money and made the transaction instantly. We all returned to school and enjoyed the yummy treats with our friends and teachers.
Thank you so much for another great day! See you all again tomorrow!

Lots of love,
All the children from Petals Class
