Birthday Party and Cookie Factory

We have been enjoying playing with LEGO blocks this week. After learning about them, it seems like we have a stronger connection with LEGO blocks. Some of our friends were joking about saying “LEGO!” to each other which resulted in giggling! It was because now we know that LEGO in Danish means “Play well!”. Aside from playing with blocks, we also enjoyed making patterns using geometric blocks. We chose a pattern (colored and just white ones) and carefully picked the appropriate shapes for it. It was a good activity for us to work on our problem-solving skills! At a corner of another table, our older group of friends took turns in writing messages on the birthday cards --- SECRETLY! It was amazing to see how our friends could clearly hear the letter sounds in the words that they would want to be in their messages. To top that, they successfully wrote the words by themselves, too! We also had lots of fun making houses for the dinosaurs and animals. Our creations with cork and LEGO blocks made us feel so proud of what we are capable of, that we asked our teachers if we could keep them after play time. We were so happy when they told us that we could absolutely keep them! It seems like LEGO blocks would be a top choice for free play until the end of summer school.

We cleaned up and got ready for snack time a bit earlier than usual. There must be some reason for this.

Y: Why snack time early today?

M: Because it’s a birthday party… Ka, Re, R, and Rh.

That’s right! We had our July birthday party today. Thank you, so much dear parents, for celebrating with us. Due to time constraints, our celebrants got to answer just one question.

Vieda: What is your birthday wish?

R: I want to be a nice girl.

Ka: I wish to have my own real computer. I think my daddy is going to buy one for me.

R: My wish is to make friends.

Rh: My wish is to go to America.

Happy, happy birthday again to our dear friends Re, R Rh, and Ka! May your wishes come true! Many thanks for the birthday treats, too! We could not wait to go home and open them😊

 CIRCLE TIME

After our zoom birthday party, we went to Step Park. This time, the rain did not start falling until we were on our way back to the park. We had such a wonderful time running around and playing with jump ropes.

Our circle time started with a song that is also a game. It is called “Who Took the Cookie in the Cookie Jar?’ First, we learned the words in the song by singing it several times. Then, some of our friends who are familiar with the game explained how the game goes. In just a few minutes, we were able to start the game! Pauline made a big (paper) cookie. We put our heads down while Pauline was secretly asking one friend to hide the cookie. It was so much fun trying to guess who had the cookie!

Speaking of cookies, our circle time discussion went towards the direction of cookies.

Ky: We can make our own Ohana cookie factory.

Vieda: What should the steps be in making a cookie?

K: Make a circle.

Vieda: From what?

A: A cookie?

K: From paper

Vieda: If we’re going to make a real cookie what do we need?

Re: Chocolate

M: Flour

Ak: In my ELC summer book, I have a book with telling you what to do to cook cookies.

M: I have a cooking book.

Vieda: You can bring it tomorrow if you want. What else do we need?

Re: Oats

M: Sprinkles

Ak: Honey

M: Jam

Ky: Cream

N: Bananas

R: Almonds

M: Sugar

Ay: I like sugar!

Is: I like sugar, too!

S: Chocolat!

Ak: Like, if I can bring a book and I can show you it and you can do the same thing and you can show my cookie to everyone.

M: I like sugar.

Mi: I have the book has a long, long way to make some treats. You need eggs and milk too… and vanilla.

A: It’s only cookie so it’s a little bit easy.

This week had been about how things are made in factories. We started with how LEGO blocks are made. Since it seems like all of us love cookies, it might be a great idea to talk about cookie factories. Of course, Flowers friends have lots of ideas to share!

Ak: We need to make a building of it (factory).

Is: Ohana is a factory… this whole school’s a factory.

Vieda: How could we make our cookie factory work?

M: Put it in the oven.

Ak: I think, like cut ingredients and then keep mixing together and you need to put a bowl. And put that in and honey to make it stick and chocolate and then roll them in a ball.

Ky: I want to eat now cookie!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you want to work in a factory?)

We had a good number for both Yes and No columns for today’s question. Here’s an interesting conversation about our friends’ answers.

 (For those who answered NO)

L: Because is tired.

Y: Because I don’t want to work.

R: Umm… so… I want to work in the factory because if you work, you get some money and if you work more, you get more money.

Ma: Because you get dirty.

A: Because it’s cold.

K: Because it’s hard.

R: Because hard.

K: Because I will get tired.

Sa: Hmm, no.

 (For those who answered YES)

Ky: Because you can make anything. I want to make Lego.

Is: I want to work in a chocolate factory like Willy Wonka… I haven’t watched it yet. I’m reading it with my mommy.

Rh: I like Willy Wonka! I have watched it and read it.

Mi: Because you can make stuff there.

Re: There’s another one. So, why do I wanna work in the factory… because… I want to help my dad because he really works. He doesn’t work in the factory, but I want to help earn money for him. He works somewhere to earn money.

A: Because we can get more money and buy stuff and then you can be smarter.

N: Because there’s a lot of things to make there.

R: Because you can make cool stuff.

Rh: I want to make stuff the same thing with Ry.

Thank you so much for sharing your ideas, Flowers friends! The main concept of factories that seems to stand out is that you can make any thing in factories. With it, comes the responsibility of hard work to be able to create from nothing to something. Of course, all these hard work pays off when we see the cool stuff that we created, which could make us learn more and be smarter as well as get paid for our efforts. Well, Flowers friends, let’s continue to talk more about factories tomorrow. We are planning to make our very own factory which we would like to call, OHANA COOKIE FACTORY tomorrow.  Let’s see how this goes😊

            See you all tomorrow!

 Love,

Flowers
