Hiding bugs and insects

Good morning, friends! What another beautiful day it was! Today, we started with some great activities. There were some connecting blocks and discs that Liezel prepared for us. We loved attaching these materials and discovering some colors we could get from them. We told our teachers that we saw red, purple, yellow, and orange. We categorized them accordingly and tried our best to find and connect as many as possible.

Table Activities

On the other table, we practiced using the dot markers and began putting on dots on the special paper. We used another set of colors today and loved making dots everywhere on the paper. We also noticed that the colors were mixed. They began changing into different and new colors. It was lovely to see these transformations, and we were happy to learn these things while having fun with our art activities.

Floor Area

The floor was also busy with some 3-D figures of insects and bugs. We got a grasshopper, ladybug, fly, cricket, dragonfly, butterfly, and beetle. We also got so explorative by trying to cover these bugs with play dough that we made with Liezel today. The fun thing about this was that we’re archeologists who attempted to remove the bugs from the soil (play dough). Speaking of play dough, we also made this at school, and the process made us more engaged in the activity.

Firstly, Liezel took out the materials and discovered that we had flour, water, lemon squeeze, oil, and salt. Our friends used the red food color and mixed it with the dough. As we kneaded it through, we noticed that it was turning pink because we learned that mixing white dough with the red food coloring became pink. Wow! The process was quite interesting for all of us to witness.

Secondly, making a play dough was quite fun as well because measuring and combining the ingredients were fun to see and understand how it was made. We were amazed to see the changes from powdery flour to soft dough. We thought we were making bread for the class, but when we saw that the texture was quite familiar, we began to comprehend that we had just created a nice play dough with our friends and teachers.

Water Play Area

After our amazing free play time, we also geared up on our swimwear because the water play area was waiting for us. The water tub was filled with water together with some buckets around us. There were also some cups and strainers we put out, and these things were used to scoop and splash water around us. What a fun way to experience and experiment with water!

Circle time

We gathered around in circles and started singing our songs. We also got a cute ladybug figure from the toy cabinet. It was a funny ladybug, and it kept on moving around the classroom. Then, we realized to sing a song for it as well, so the song goes like this…

Ladybug Song

Ladybug, ladybug

How do you do?

Ladybug, ladybug

How many legs do you have?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6!

Ladybug. Ladybug

How do you do?

Ladybug, ladybug

How many spots do you have?

1, 2, 3 ,4, 5, 6 and 7!

The second song was all about the insects and bugs. It was a fantastic song as we derived the music from The Wheels on the Bus.

The Insects Outside (Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)

The fireflies at night go blink, blink, blink

Blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink

The fireflies at night go blink, blink, blink

Out in the garden.

The bees in the flowers go buzz, buzz, buzz

Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz

The bees in the flowers go buzz, buzz, buzz

Out in the garden.

Other verses:

cricket/fields/chirp

caterpillars/on the leaves/munch

spiders/in the bush/ spin their webs

worms/in the ground/ wiggle and squirm

Lastly, the paper we created using the dot markers. Then, Liezel had a brilliant idea wherein she stuck all the bugs that had the same colors. Then, our friends tried to find the bugs in it and guess how many we’ve found. There were more than ten all in all. Well done, Buds friends!

Thank you so much for another beautiful day, and it was nice to have our friends while having fun staying indoors.

Have a lovely day!

Lots of love,

All the children from Buds Class 2022
