Escape the heat and Trains galore
Good day everyone! Today was our first day of Summer School for the year 2022. We welcomed our new friends, L and J, into our class, and they settled in quite quickly as they also explored the wonders of what was in store for all of us. As we entered the room, it was pretty calmer than a regular class because we only had a small number of friends today. We felt the joy of our old friends who came in and excitedly discovered what was prepared for us.
Table Activities
Our tables were filled with various sensory materials that our teachers presented to us. One of the things we enjoyed was the play dough activity and the utensils we could use to cut and mold, such as cookie cutters, plastic knives, and rolling pins.
We also had cut-up cardboards, bubble wraps, and cushion sheets. We were working on a special project that we could use at the end of the week to show our parents how hard we worked on this fantastic project. With these materials, we were able to explore colors using Posca markers. The paint was exquisite, and of course, we were still trying to figure out how to use it more effectively as our hands are still too tiny to manipulate them as they should be.
While doing the play dough activities, Liezel, together with our other friends, lined up the chairs and they started singing, “Row, row your boat”. We sang the song fast and slow. But when the crocodile came in, we all screamed, “Ahhh!”
Floor Activities
The big Lego blocks and some trains and cars were on the floor today. We loved that each of us had a corner where we could create our station or tracks. It was amazing to see how we were able to construct and make our establishment, and it was great to witness how imaginative and creative we could all get.
The cushion slide was also a great tool to use in the classroom. Since we could not go to the park today, we still spent a lot of energy going up and down the slide and experimenting with the cars as they slid down.
Storybooks
We opened the Little Finger Puppet book about the spider. Our friends got so engaged and listened to the story of how the spider weaved some web and turned it into a silky bed. There were also some books about trains, and we couldn’t help but notice the steam engines and how they could make big sounds. We also compared the pictures we saw in the book to the actual toys we saw in the boxes. The kitchen area was also busy because we’ve got to cook some toy vegetables and make tea for our teachers.
Singing sessions
We couldn’t stop singing our hearts out as we began dancing to the beat of “Mulberry busy,” “Head, shoulders, knees and toes,” and the classic songs like “Itsy, bitsy spider.” Our friends showed off their dancing skills and entertained the whole class. We captured beautiful moments together as we enjoyed the music journey, learning more about our surroundings and, most importantly, ourselves.
Thank you so much for a great first day at Ohana, and see you all again tomorrow!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds Class 2022
