An Egg is Quiet
We invited a friend today but this friend did not look like us. She was a teeny tiny caterpillar who came out from an egg! The rain kept us in the classroom all day long but we kept ourselves busy playing with bubbles and balloons! Here is what happened….
Koinobori Art (Final Touch)
Our Koinobori for this year took three stages to complete! First, as a group art we made the scale patterns using paint and dabbers. Second, we stuck the circle shaped scales on each Koinobori. Finally, we added strips for its mouth, whiskers and eyes. Liezel sat with us and we freely stuck the pieces where ever we liked.
Bubble Foam Play
If you get 1/2 cup water and add 2 table spoon body soap and whisk it with a mixer, what do you think you get? BUBBLES!!!! What’s more, we added food coloring! We made three bowls of bubble foam in colors of blue, yellow and red and poured it all in our water trough. The bubbles looked like rainbow colored candy floss 🌈 😋 Using tools such as cups, bowls and spoons, we made some yummy iceーcream and clouds on our hands!
Big Lego Blocks and Lines
Together with Tamara, we were so busy building a tower with big Lego blocks as tall as ourselves! We always enjoy coming up with new ideas and we connected the blocks like a chair to sit on or a train to ride. On the side, Liezel showed us how to play with the different kinds of lines made from a masking tape on the floor. There was a straight line to balance on; a zigzag line to follow; and zebra lines to hop on. We also like to grab a chair and chitchat with our friends!
Circle Time
Can you make a heart shape? Can you make a diamond shape? We started our circle time by making different shapes with our fingers. How about a circle? When we were trying to make a circle connecting Mr. Thumb-kin and Mr. Pointer, R suggested that she can make a “ball” by connecting all he fingers! Rightly so, we can even make a 3D shape! We then closed one hand in a ball shape and covered it with the other hand and we switched our hands. What did we make? A cabbage🥬 Together we sang キャベツの中から(kyabetsu no naka Kara) and each time we enjoyed seeing a daddy, mommy, brother, sister and baby caterpillar hiding inside the cabbage🐛 It was a fun finger song to sing and we learned the names of each finger while remembering that we can find caterpillars at parks and in gardens. In fact, Nanako explained that she has a lemon tree in her garden and the other day, she found tiny yellow eggs on the leaves. Few days later, from the eggs came out tiny caterpillars! We observed the tiny caterpillar which she brought for us to see and even opened up a book about insects to find out which one it could be. We all had different thoughts but in the end, we concluded that our tiny friend could be ツマグロヒョウモン (Indian Fritillary) 🦋 We all spread our wings and turned into beautiful butterflies singing Fly, Fly, Fly, the Butterfly.
Balloon Swapping
After filling up our hungry tummies, we all had a balloon in each hand and gathered in a circle again and we greeted each other with our Good Morning song 🎈 Then we were divided into three groups so that we each could have a turn to hold a fly swapper and we swapped the balloons!!! We had a lot of fun using the swapper some trying to catch the balloon in mid air like lacrosse and some chasing the balloon on the floor like playing hokey. We also played the freeze dance holding the balloons. After hopping, jumping, running and twirling, we needed to slowdown a bit so we did some yoga poses. We did “I am strong,” “ I am kind,” “I am friendly” and “I am wise.” Perhaps we can teach you the poses at home. By then we were all settled nicely and we enjoyed reading a story together called An Egg Is Quiet by Dianna Hutts Aston and Sylvia Long.
Thank you for another lovely day!
Love from all the children in Buds xoxo
