Happy Birthday, S and Easter Story

It was a day of celebration in Flowers today. We are very happy to meet S’s mom and dad, W and Ai on zoom. Thank you so much for preparing the parcel game for us! We remembered what Ai said, “When the music stops, take off one layer of the paper. If you find a gift inside, you may keep it! But there could be no gift, too!”.  Our heartbeat got faster as we passed the parcel around, especially when it stopped on us! We felt a bit sad when we did not find a parcel on the first and second round, but our faces lit up when we did find one on the next round! In fact, the only difference was the timing of when we got our present because we all got a present! Thank you so much!

Sh looked fabulous with her birthday crown on her head. As always, we enjoyed the question-and-answer (and special messages, too!) part which made us to know her better.

            D: I love you!

            Z: Where are you from?

            Sh: I’m from Japan.

            Ai: South Africa

A: I know where South Africa is.

            N: Like Au.

            K: He is from Lithuania.

Za: Shelley is from South Africa, too.

            Y I love you!
Z: What is your favorite color?

Sh: I like pink and purple.

            Z: Me too!
Z: What is your favorite food?

Sh: I love food mom makes. I like strawberries.

            S: How about pasta?

            Sh: No!

Z: Who is your best friend?

Sh: My sister and my brothers. I have two brothers, Riley and Raye, and Shani.

            K: How old are they?

Sh: I don’t know. I’ll ask when I get home today.

STORY TIME

For our story time, we read a magazine that talked about animal teeth. Not just animal teeth but also what would happen if we had them?! Sh said, “I want to see rattlesnake’s teeth!”. When Vieda showed us the picture, we all said, “Awww! That’s scary!”. We talked a bit about venom and how it could make us sick. When Vieda said, “We might need to call an ambulance if that happens”, Sh shared something about ambulance. She said, “My dad called the ambulance before, and the doctor made me feel better”. Ay also said, “Ambulance and hospital!”. That’s right, the ambulance takes us to the hospital! Then, Hi wanted to see the elephant’s teeth, while Ay asked for the crocodiles. D got surprised because “Teeth very long and many!”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you know about Easter?)

This morning, we decorated an egg with our markers We drew faces, made patterns, and drew lots of circles on our eggs. Some of us thought they were real eggs and wanted to eat them!

For today’s question of the day, D shared what he observed with the names. He said, “No is longer!”. That’s right. We paired the names on the YES and NO column and realized that there were 9 names on NO and 6 on YES. When paired, we noticed that there 9 is 3 more than 6! We knew that 9 is bigger than 6, but this time we also discovered how much bigger it is than 6!

Some of our friends happily shared what they think Easter is about.

            Y: Eggs

            Ay: Easter…

N: It’s about having fun. We get chocolate eggs. You eat them. I don’t know who, but someone hides the eggs. Then, people find them, and they can get to eat them like chicken eggs.

D: It’s plastic, can’t eat. I made blue egg. (Referring to the Easter egg he made this morning).

Be: They are called Easter eggs.

Z: You will find chocolate eggs.

Be: I did this at church.

Kyi: (looked at the tiny hole of the plastic eggs) You can see inside here.

Ai: I can see just a little bit.

What is Easter all about? We might see rabbits and eggs at the store during Easter time, but what is it really? K recalled what Beatrice said before. He said, “God made the earth”.

            B: God made everything.

            Z: Allah Miya, too.

K: Who made the milky way and galaxy?
           B: God!

            N: How about the people?
            Be: God!
            S: How about the baby?

            B: God!

We talked about the differences in our beliefs about who made our world and everything that we see around us. Some of us believe that it was God, while some believe that it was Allah Miya, and some believed that it was a result of some movements.

Easter is somehow a celebration of people like Be who believes in God.

Be: One store, you can put money in and see God, the God who made people. But I haven’t done it yet. God died on the cross for our sins.

Vi: Like Beatrice, I also believe in that. He died but he woke up and came back to life. That’s what we call resurrection. And that’s why we celebrate Easter.

K: Su is a Christian. She told me.

D: I have real eggs in Japan.

K: My dad do poster about Easter.

Can you guess what the exciting part is? We are going to have an Easter egg hunt soon! We are looking forward to this event!

We hope you had a lovely warm Wednesday! See you tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
