What Can Our Brain Remember?

Happy Wednesday!

We really had a lot of fun yesterday! It felt weird not preparing for the winter party today, because it had become such a staple of our daily routine for the past couple of weeks. We thought that we were going to practice our songs and dances again today, and were a bit disappointed when we didn’t.

REFLECTING ON OUR WINTER PARTY

Since we still had our winter party on our minds, we decided to share our favorite things about it…

Be: I like the snowball fight!
Hi: I like the origami. I make Christmas tree.
Ka: The snowman, it was funny!
Da: Shamash

Da did such an amazing job stepping into the role of our Shamash at the last minute!

Re: Playing the game and painting.
An: The games.
Ky: I was little bit sad, little bit happy. Sad because mommy is not here, happy because face painting, snowman, and eating snack!
Br: Mama
Hi: Facepainting, snowman, and snow!
Ri: Snowman and snowflakes (painting on face and hands). Da’s mom did it.

After we shared our favorite things about the party, we decided to critique our performances. So, how did we do?

Hi: I watched the video with my mommy. I think everyone is loud.
Ky: Hi, it was too loud, and it’s not good job, yeah? I heard teacher say, “loud and proud.”
Hi: Everyone just loud, not proud.

Hi and Ka disagreed and thought we did a great job! Our teachers thought we did an amazing job as well, and we think our parents probably feel the same. We are our toughest critics.

Ky: I think Cameron did a good job for making the snowman, and Hi and Da’s mom did a good job!

Our whole class shares Ky’s sentiment. We appreciate everyone’s hard work and support in making our winter party very special. Thank you!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you have a memory?)

Today’s question featured another word that we didn’t quite understand.

Hi: What is memory?
Be: It’s like yesterday you remember something with your brain. Remember is when you go somewhere, you remember another year or another day.

How can you remember something?

Ky: Brain.

What kinds of things can we remember? How far back can we remember?

Ky: Winter party…I remember Halloween party.
Be: I remember when I went to dinosaur museum when I was 3 after my birthday.
Ab: I went to science museum. It was a long time ago in Florida. I went to the science museum with my nanny because my mommy was at work. There was dinosaur fossils.

We can remember things ranging from one day ago to at least one year ago. But can we remember something from even further back, like when we were a baby?

Ky: In Chiba house my daddy birthday. It was like costume party. I’m baby, I cried because my daddy friend did bad thing. So scary, like pig monster.

Da: When I was a baby long, long, long time, I was in Buds class. Then I went to another school like Petals class. When I was here, I was four.

Da’s response got us thinking…do we remember where we were before Flowers class or before Ohana?

Be: I go to Sunshine school. My mommy and daddy don’t take me to school, we all ride in a bus.

Ky: I go to Japanese baby school. It’s kinda close to Ohana. The school close to chocolate shop too!

Ka: I went to different school. When I was 4, Bambini. Sometimes when it’s special day like Halloween, I go home early.

Hi: I went Japanese school, Buddy. When I’m baby, I don’t go to school.
Ky: I went to Bali! I swim in the ocean.
Hi: Not Bali, it’s buddy. Buddy is Japanese.

We decided that we cannot remember everything, and we can’t remember things that happened before we were born. We know about things that happened before we were born, like Ri knowing about a family vacation that Ky remembers but Ri doesn’t because “she was not there.”

Or like Ka knowing about there being dinosaurs in Japan a long time ago, but we didn’t see it with our own eyes, so we don’t “remember” it.

It was fun seeing all the things that we can remember and what events in our lives have become memories. Some memories are good ones, some might be bad ones. It all depends on how you look at it.

PARK TIME

We finally had nice weather today, so we were able to go to Step Park today and get some fresh air. We enjoyed running around and playing games with our friends. We had a lot of built up energy to get out after staying inside because of all the cold, rainy days recently.

We hope you all have a nice evening!
See you tomorrow!
