What can we do in the snow?
We had a wonderful day on our winter school, in the morning we greeted our friends and teachers and moved on to our morning routines. We were so glad to hear that some of our friends were excited and happy to come to school. Our morning activities were filled with lots of fun playing and learning. During our free play, we explored our sensory table. We used our hands to explore pinecones, gumballs, cork blocks and pebbles. Having the opportunity to be exposed to Sensory play allows us to be able to create/play differently. Some of the things we made were, a selection of cakes and creating faces using cork blocks and pebbles.
We also enjoyed most part of our free play singing songs with Nimo playing his guitar, it was amazing to discover that we can also makes music and play instruments using pebbles and blocks.
Winter is the season of snow as we continued to learn more about winter, we had our snowfall activity set up in the morning. At first, we were not sure how to paint the snow, we wondered how the snow falls from the sky. After figuring it out, we started to paint on the blue construction paper with white paint mixed with glue, we used the cotton buds and sponges to resemble mountains of snow. For the final touch, we added cut out sparkly origami to make it sparkly and shiny.
Circle Time
We had a short circle time after coming back from the Kogai Park. We started by singing songs “Snowflakes” and “Frosty the Snowman”. Then we read a story “Snow is Falling” by Franklyn Mansfield Branley. It was a story about an introduction to snow and exploring lots of activities in cold winter days. We also learned how the snow helps plants, it covers the plants that must stay in the ground all winter. It helps the animals, to keep them warm and build house of snow to protect people. In the book it shows us how Snow is fun for making snowmen and sledding. We wondered what else can we do in the snow. We then moved on to the question of the day (Can you play in the Snow?)
S: Snow is fun! I played snowball fight with my brothers and sisters. My mom and dad don’t like what I do to them. Only brother and sister. Snow is good for us!
K: Making snowman, ice skate.
A: Snow is too slippery so we can’t make a snowman.
K: Snowball fight with mommy and grandma.
R: I don’t know.
R: Uhhh, No.
S: At the night of the snow my brother and sister make a big snowman.
Shelley: I went skiing and fell. I couldn’t get up and I laughed so much. Finally, my friend picked me up.
Liezel: Is it easy to walk in the snow?
K: No! Ski!
S: Cold and Freeze!
We had a fabulous time at the Kogai Park together with our Petals friends. The weather was fine today, we had a nice walk together and enjoyed most of our time playing at the park!
Have a nice day! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Love,
Flowers
