Second Day of Winter School
Wooden Montessori Toys Station
Yesterday’s wooden Montessori toys were a hit for our newcomers! Our teachers made these items available for them to feel more at home at Ohana. Aside from the abacus, the hammering set and loop through wooden beads were also brought out for us to use. Here’s what we did:
K enjoyed hammering down plastic wooden pegs down a wooden frame. While doing so, Erika was narrating in English what he was doing and he happily repeated words, especially the colors!
J used the strings and wooden beads to pretend he was taking his dog for a walk. When he was done with his walk, he transformed his toy into a spinning wheel. He had to be mindful of his surroundings while doing so as to avoid getting an ouchie.
K enjoyed shifting the weight of the beads throughout the string by dangling and moving it from side to side.
R tried his hand at looping beads yet preferred watching others do it and gave a hearty laugh each time he heard the sound of the wooden beads bumping into each other.
Wooden Train Sets, Toy Animals, and Anpanman Blocks
These toys are such great tools that encourage children to interact, collaborate and socialize with one another.
E and Y felt more at home upon seeing the Anpanman block set out. They both enjoyed stacking and showing both to friends and teachers that they were able to recognize some of the characters.
J and K, who are both train connoisseurs, demonstrated to R how to build a massive railway track/system.
L and T started to get along really well by mimicking each other’s actions and finding it funny. They both were literally rolling on the floor laughing.
Colorful Scribbles
The winter holidays also include the coming of the brand new year. Since the night sky comes earlier during winter, several black sheets of paper were brought out for us to scribble “rainbow” crayons on. The brightness of these colors against the color black reminded us of fireworks that light up the sky.
E drew intricate designs and stuck shiny pearl stickers in a certain manner to make a pattern. She was able to bond well with newcomer Er in this station. Due to the designs that E made, her other friends got interested with the colorful scribbles she made and decided to join in.
Musical Scarves Circle Time
Since our newcomers are settling in better, our older friends guided them in packing away and placing toys in its proper containers.
We are in luck that Er, Y, T, and K also love to dance to good music… so, we danced to Queen’s “Another One Bits the Dust” wherein we told them the steps in English such as “Jump”, “Hop”, “Run”, “Stop”, and “Walk”.
We were each also given a scarf to “catch”. We had fun dancing with our scarves. We “tossed and catch”, “let it fly”, “peek-a-boo” with it. We even thought of the cool idea of sitting on it while moving around… it felt like snow sledding since its texture was slippery!
Our teachers saw that we were very much engaged in this activity that we sang and danced to at least five songs.
When our energy was gradually decreasing, we settled down listening to lullaby versions of “Baby Shark”, “Skidimarink” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars”. We also read the story “Ten Little Night Stars” by Deb Gruelle.
We hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday so far!
Love,
Buds Class Children
