Toes Can Also Feel & Pick Up Things!

Jack O’ Lantern station

We made “transparent orange oval things” last week and wondered what it could be. Today, we found out what it was supposed to be when we saw face parts next to the orange ovals on the table. We enjoyed putting eyes and mouths on. Together with Tamara, K was thinking about what shape of eyes she would like to put on a pumpkin and picked oval ones. With K’s help, it became a good looking Jack O’ Lantern. The pumpkin had a big smile as though it was saying “Thank you” to her.

S also chose a mouth for one of them. She knew how double sided tapes worked and took off its white paper gently from the tape and stuck it on its mouth. This activity reminded us of what we did with Ms./Mr. Potato Head. It sounds easy to put parts on the face but it’s a good chance to think about where each face part should be placed.

S visited the station later and found four Jack O 'Lanterns. He was looking at each of them carefully which seemed like he was comparing them. At last, he stacked all four of them together and made a pile.

Cotton Swab Skeleton Station

There was one more thing we made today for Halloween. We dipped cotton swabs in glue and placed them on a piece of black paper to make “skeletons”. Cotton swabs really stood out on black paper and looked like skeleton bones dancing in the dark. N came straight to this station as soon as she finished with her morning job and enjoyed dipping cotton swabs in glue. J had a brilliant idea of drawing something with glue using a cotton swab. What could have he drawn?

Sensory Mummy station

We had some yarn inside the sensory table. Some of us tried to pull them out first. Pull, pull, pull…where is the end? It was so long! When we found the end, we saw a man-shaped paper. It looked like we untied mummy, oh no! E tried to put it back on the mummy and wrap the yarn around it. Thank you, E! We discovered different ways to play with yarn: Y pretended he was fishing! L picked some yarn, put them on his shoulders and showed teachers how he dressed up.

Free Play (Blocks, Potato Head)

Some friends were also playing with blocks. A made a nice building and made a train run around on the top. L also made a big building. K and W joined him and they were playing with the building together. R enjoyed putting several eyes on Potato Head.

Circle Time

Before we sat down together and made a circle, we moved our body by listening to the instructions included in the song such as “walk”, “gallop”, “tiptoe”, “run” and “skate”. After some exercise, we sat down and greeted each other “Good Morning!”

Seila asked us to take our socks and shoes off to sing a song. We changed the lyrics of the “Finger Family” song to “Toe family” and touched each toe.

Seila also showed us something in the box. We sat down nicely and showed her that we were ready to see…it was a plastic bag filled with water! We took turns and touched & felt it with our hands. Next,we touched it using our feet! All of us had an interesting face while doing so and wondered if we all felt the same or felt differently. When J had his turn, he said “Cold!”. Was there anybody else who felt like J did? It was just a part of our journey to discover “feet”.  We will discover it even more!

Free Play Time & Circle Time 2

Since it was raining all day, we could not go outside today but we had fun inside. We had Kitchen toys around our kitchen corner and almost everyone was having fun playing kitchen pretend play. We used pompoms and our imagination to recreate the food that we wanted to play with.

Some friends were also having fun with the indoor slide. Sliding on the tummy was the most popular thing to do among “Team Sliders”. E gave a big hug to L when he came down on the slide and landed.

We had another round of Circle Time and did some exercises. First we ran around with the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, and we also went to “Bear Hunt” after we read the book “Bear Hunt” retold by Michael Rosen & Illustrated by Helen Oxenbury.

We moved a lot and got tired so we lied down and got some rest. It’s always nice to have a relaxing time after we move a lot and get excited.

We were ready for the next activity. We had another “feet activity”. Teachers asked us if we could catch marbles using our toes without using our hands. It was difficult to do but we tried our best. Y, J, L, K and E did a fantastic job! With Erika’s help, A put a lot of marbles between toes. It looked like he had sparkling pedicures! He looked very happy about it. J tried it too. At last, we managed to pick up all the marbles, hooray!

Even though we didn’t go outside, we hads enough exercise to make us sleepy after lunch.

We wish you a nice and cool autumn evening.

Love,

Buds Class Children
