Pumpkins!

What a beautiful day, we had another marvelous day at school! We started our morning playing with playdough and toy cars. Some of us continued our spider painting on the art table. The haunted house was popular as usual! We then had our snacks then gathered together for our first circle time. We briefly talked about how to take care of our precious lifebooks and how to use our words to share our books with our friends. We practiced our Trick-or-Treat song and Ohana Song. Nimo wanted to sing one more song with our mommies and daddies. It is a song we always have a great time singing with our teachers. It’s the “Go Away Big Green Monster” song, and for our song on Halloween day Nimo wanted to know what we thought was scary.

S: Big Ghost!

G: Ya! Ghost!
T: A goblin…A tall goblin.

R: A T-rex, a green one.

E: Just like this one on my sock!
J: A big and small monster.

K: Spider… Brown Spider.

R: Pumpkin…Jack o’lantern!

We then sang the song with the things we think are scary and would like to go away! We then went to the park and had a blast playing with our friends.

When we got back we gathered again and Nimo read us a book, “Ten Trick-or-Treaters” by Janet Schulman and Linda Davick. It was a fun counting book with 10 little kids, but one gets scared and runs home every page. L did a great job saying the numbers on the page out loud for petals friends. Our friends seemed very excited for Halloween day and trick-or-treating for candy!

After the story Nimo brought a box to our circle and showed us the pumpkins that were inside. K named the smallest pumpkin, “Baby Pumpkin”. It was so baby, that S said, “Not a pumpkin”. There were medium sized pumpkins and a very big pumpkin! We took a look at the Jack O’lantern and compared the two.

R: Jack has eyes, ears, and mouth.

E: What’s this? (Pointed at the stem of the pumpkin)

Nimo: I wonder what it is, what do you think?

E: I’m not sure.

R: A pole!

T: Straw.

G: A frog.

E: Maybe a rock?

J: Emai

S: A little ghost.

G: Look at this, (pointed at the scars on the pumpkin)

We tried picking up the big pumpkin and all of our friends said, “Oh it’s heavy!”. Then Nimo handed us the empty box that was bigger than the pumpkin, but it wasn’t very heavy. Why is the pumpkin so heavy? Great! Another Wonder! To dig deeper Nimo asked us, “What do you think is inside the pumpkin?”

J: I want to shake.

Nimo: Great idea! Everyone shake the pumpkin!

J: Potatoes inside.

T: I think carrots are inside.

G: Monster!

To explore the pumpkin more, we tried smelling the pumpkin.

G: Smells like potatoes.

R: Octopus.

J: Yucky!

Nimo told us he will keep the pumpkin in the classroom where we can touch it. We will open and look inside the pumpkin at our Halloween party!

Thank you everyone for another lovely day! Have a great evening and see you all tomorrow for a short day!

Love,

Petals
