A Lovely Halloween Surprise

Peek A Boo “Gatcha Gatcha” Surprise and A Whole Lot of Other Stuff Free Play

The inner area of our room is cozy and warm wherein we wait for our friends to all arrive before being able to explore other sensory stations. With Seila’s guidance, the room was buzzing with lots of action and excitement as each of us had our mind and body occupied with the many stations available.

Sensory Items: Halloween Colored Noodle Foams, Yoga Strips, Colorful Spiders, and Gatcha Gatcha Containers

K and R both found the colorful spiders made out of pompom and fuzzy wires amusing. It seemed like the lively light colors made the spiders look friendly and both of them enjoyed it “crawling” over their heads and shoulders.

N found herself being occupied with balancing a spider web bowl on top of her head which provided entertainment for others to watch.

A and L strengthen their fine motor skills by opening “gatcha gatcha” balls to see the fun surprise in it. It was fun to see their reaction when noodle foams would burst out when a ball was opened.

S had his hands on Kadir Nelson’s “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” book and spent time flipping and intently looking at each page.

K and N bonded over Michael Rosen’s “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” wherein both of them took turns in sharing their reactions on each page.

K noticed that the crocodile’ skin on the cover of Faustin Charles’ “The Selfish Crocodile” somehow looks the same as the tactile beams’ texture.

S spent time working on her balance by walking on top of the tactile beams.

J, L, and R bonded over placing toy cars inside a big carton box. It was interesting to observe them interact with each other while doing so with L in charge of putting in the cars, J making sure that it gets inside the box, and R giving a reaction each time he hears a thudding sound.

K took on the role of being the big sister of making sure that all her friends were using walking feet and indoor voices. Each time she chanced upon someone who may have accidentally tripped, she quickly reaches out to help.

“Walking” Towards Autumn

The season of autumn has officially arrived! To celebrate the features that are exclusively related to autumn, our feet were in for a sensory treat as we “walked” on trays of cinnamon & ginger scented paper mache and turmeric scented sweet potato roots.

S took charge of sprinkling ginger powder and showed us how independent she was in taking off and putting on her shoes and socks.

A and Y took courage in stepping on the “strange” looking dirty sweet potato roots. They enjoyed rubbing their feet on the dirt which may have provided them with a rough sensory experience.

J and Y bonded over their similar observation of cinnamon powder floating on water. J even made a special drink similar to how a Starbucks’ drink would look like.

Playdough Making with Nanako

Together with N, we watched how our playdough was made. It was interesting to see how separate ingredients, when mixed together, become one big ball of playdough.

Preparing for Our Special Guest

We were all hyped up that our teachers helped us in calming ourselves down by playing a lullaby version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. We also read Deb Gruelle’s “Ten Little Night Stars”, which is one of our favorite books as we get to count!

Jack O’ Lantern Candle Souvenir Making with Yoshiko

Our teachers gave us hints on who the special guest for today could be. The hints were (1) she sometimes wears sunglasses, (2) she rides a bicycle, and (3) she can be seen in W’s Lifebook… who could it be? The ultimate hint was that Wren calls her ... “Mama!” It was W’s mom whose name is Y!

Y brought along items to help us celebrate the upcoming Halloween event. We made “Jack O’ Lantern” candle souvenirs by (1) filling in a clear jar with orange paper, (2) placing battery operated candles inside it, (3) closing it with a lid, (4) sticking black eyes & mouth and (5) painting the lid with green paint using our fingers.

After our art activity, we danced together with Y to The Kiboomer’s “Conga Line Dance Song” and sang to her “Skidimarink” to say thank you for spending time with us.

Out to the Pond

We spent our Outdoor Play by the pond to see if we could spot fish swimming. The older members of our class were more interested in finding “red berries” amongst the fallen dried leaves on the muddy ground. They also explored the idea of how tall a tree is by seeing how high they could jump in order to reach it.

We hope everyone is having a lovely Wednesday

Love,

Buds Class Children
