More About Our Lungs!

Flowers’ room has slowly transformed into something that is spooky and Halloween-ish😊 We are so proud of our crafts that are displayed around our room. Just the thought of having moms and dads see them, makes our hearts beat fast in excitement.

We listened to some of the Halloween songs that we have been singing and picked one that we want to sing on our Halloween party. We sang the song together and felt like we really did a wonderful job! When Vieda said, “Your moms and dads will be so happy to see you sing and dance on our party!”, Ky asked quite a serious question which sparked everyone’s interest. As a class, we all discussed what we could possibly do if it happens.

Ky: At our party, what will you do if we are singing and dancing, but our mommies and daddies are not watching. But looking at their phones and watching and sending message to people?

D: We say, “No iPads please!”.

H: Say, line up please. H is going to say eat snack.

D: When mommy see phone, Vieda will talk to mommy and say, “You put the phone in your pocket, please”.

Be: What if mom won’t listen and put it in her pocket? Just hide it, Vieda! When mommy is looking on it then just hand it when mommy need to go home.

Ky: When daddy is using phone, Vieda is say then you cannot talk to my daddy because maybe you’re shy. Vieda, you can do class dojo. Say on class dojo, “daddy and mommy please not looking on the phone!”.

            D: And, don’t do telephone!

Be: And don’t talk. Use your phone in taking pictures!

Ky: If not, Vieda will take your phone!

D And hide it, then five it back when they go. My mom don’t like Vieda to hide her telephone.

H: Say mommy and daddy, picture is okay.

Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. We just love our moms and dads so much that we want them to watch us sing and dance. We are so excited that you would be able to come and join our party in person! We have been working on with our dance presentation with Maryna, and songs with our teachers. We can’t wait until our Halloween party!

CIRCLE TIME

Our circle time started with a short game where we need to pick the first letter of our name. We marched around the magnetic letters on the floor, and readily picked up our first letter on hearing its sound. We all did an amazing job! When we finished putting our beginning letters on the board, Vieda told us that when we know the letter sounds, we would be able to read words. We saw the letters /b/ /a/ and /r/ on the board and sounded each of them and when we read them fast the second time, it came out as a word! It says, BAR! Then, we tried one more time. We had the letters /c/ /a/ and /r/ and sounded each of them. Then, we all chorused in excitement, CAR! Lastly, Vieda put 4 letters /s/ /i/ /c/ and /k/. We remember that /ck/ makes a single sound. Then we all said, “SICK!”. It seemed like a magical experience to hear a word when we put the sounds together! We would love to do more of this again next time!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Can your lungs help you talk?)

All of us answered YES and could not think of the reason behind it. D shared what he thought our lungs do with the heart. He said, “The heart is pumping the lungs here (pointed at his chest). You can breathe out, then you don’t breathe you can die”. Before moving forward with our circle discussion, we tried how our lungs project could help us visualize how lungs work. We were so excited to blow on the straws that are connected on small bags. We found it exciting when the bags became bigger when we blew air in each of them..

Learning about our body parts that are inside our body is sometimes a challenge because we cannot see any of them. The good news is that we can feel them! Just like the heart that we feel beating, we can also feel our lungs when we breathe deeply.

For a starter, we put our hand over our mouth as we breathed. Wow, we could feel the air coming out of our mouth. B and Hi said, “It’s hot and stinky!”, while Hi thought it was both hot and cold. As we learned that there is another body part that is just above our windpipe or trachea. It’s something called “voice box”. This time, we put our hand over our neck and tried screaming and whispering /a/ sound. We could feel more movements on our neck when we screamed and could hardly feel anything when we whispered.

Our fascination about our lungs was unstoppable. We lied on our stomachs and noticed

that our lungs did not burst nor were hurt. What protect them from easily breaking? S excitedly said, “Our bones!”.

Ky shared how pro-wrestlers fight a lot during a match and yet their lungs are just fine. “They are just sweaty and sweaty!”. We tried several things to see how our lungs work, We breathe deeply and checked our shirts moved up and down. We also took a deep breath and then tried to say all the names of our friends, which we could not! We tried to say the word “Flowers” in one breath as well and found ourselves catching our breath!

We looked at our fascinating 3D book about our body. We saw how our rib cage looks like and realized that the shape can protect our lungs. Hi took note of the muscles in our chest which we later learned help us our move up and down when take deep breaths. As we observed the two pipes on our neck, D asked, “What happens when the food go here in the trachea, then to our lungs?  We paused for a moment and here’s what we thought.

            D: You will die.

Ky: You will get fever and allergy.

            H: You will die.

D: Because if it goes not in esophagus, you will get sick!

Let’s discover the answer to this question in our circle discussion tomorrow! Please share your ideas with us😊

Have a lovely evening! See you tomorrow!

 Love,

Flowers
