Can we live underground?

Hope everyone had a restful weekend! We are so happy to be back at school, but because Corona has finally made its way here to Ohana, there are a lot of things we need to be more careful about. We sat down together and talked about what has been going on and what we are going to do to keep ourselves safe. Until the end of February we will stay in Flowers Class with only Flowers friends. No one from other classes or people from outside Flowers Class will be able to come inside. Since Flowers will stay in flowers, our Flowers Teachers will do our After School Classes for now. Another big change we made is, no talking during snack/lunch time. When we take our masks off at the table, we cannot talk until we are finished eating and have our masks back on. Just to be extra safe, our teachers will also be eating on different tables. It’s a bummer we can’t chat while we enjoy our lunch, hopefully things will calm down soon so we can talk again!

Before we went to the park we had a short gym time with the monkey bar. We practiced hanging, swinging, and pulling ourselves up. We then played a game with our friends before we headed to Step Park. At Step Park we had a great time playing on the big slide, and at the Green Area!

When we got back to school we got into a circle and sang a few songs before we read our Question of the Day.

Y: Do you think people can live underground?

C: No, because if people go underground the animals that live underground might eat them.

T: There are some trains underground.

Y: And underground, there are Eki (train stations).

K: I’ve been to basements before.

A: I live in a castle home.

T: We have a basement too!

N: Why do worms live underground?

C: It’s their habitat.

N: What does a place need to be a “habitat”?

K: They need a hole, so the animals can get inside and hide from the predators.

C: The animals need to be scary.

Z: Habitats need toilets!

K: Food, or else they would have a short life.

T: When people plant trees they get water from the trees.

K: Kitchen for cooking and beds!

T: Air, Oxygen

S: Masks! What is oxygen?

T: The air we breathe

C: Carbon dioxide comes out.

K: People won’t be able to breathe underground, because the dirt will cover the hole.

C: We can dig holes with a shovel.

N: How do you think animals can see underground?

K: The dirt is very dark and brown

C: There is no sun, so if you live under, you wont see anything.

Our homework for today was to find out how moles, worms, and other subterranean animals see, and how they know how to get around the dark underground!

Have a great day everyone and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
