January 20 - Mickey came to visit

As usual today was a wonderful busy day in Buds Class. Please enjoy the journal here below.

Magical See-through Painting
Initially, we scribbled independently on the transparent sheets using our colorful markers. The scribbles eventually turned into wavy patterns; and circular shapes. Some of us made tiny circles on them too, that looked like apples. Liezel then got out the liquid watercolors to see what else we could make, and a bit of fun turned into something extraordinary! A few drops of watercolor on a piece of plastic and another sheet on top of it created magic. Our eyes were mesmerized to watch how the colors moved and merged, seemingly on their own. Everyone was engaged and just kept on scribbling on the transparent sheet. We loved this activity and will do it again next time.

Making Spring Rolls
On one of the tables, Goh san helped us make our very own special spring rolls. We used some leftover ingredients from our cooking activity yesterday, such as the colored foam strips, white paper strips, cut-out block sponges to represent various vegetables like cabbage, shredded carrots, and tofu for our filling.

Making cookies and Mochi
Making some cookies and mochi with Tamara was one of the table activities that occupied us this morning. When we used the different playdough cutters it helped us to be creative and imaginative. It was a fun experience rolling, poking, and squishing the dough with our little hands.

Dr. Jean’s Banana Dance, aka The Guacamole Song, is one of our favorite songs on our playlist. Dancing to the music and using our large muscles to move around was a great way to help develop our fine and gross motor skills and warm us up on this very cold day.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Illustrated and written by Eric Carle
We were so excited because today Mickey Mouse came to visit us. Mickey was so glad to see all the children in Buds Class, sitting nicely in a circle. He even recognized everyone’s name. Mickey shared one of his favorite books from his library that he read with us. It was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. A fantastic book written and illustrated by Eric Carle. There is so much that we love in this simple book. The imaginative illustrations resemble collages and are colorful and straightforward. We love the repetitive nature of the story, which enables us to predict what might happen next; it also builds our excitement through anticipation, as much as all of us love the big revelation in the end. Using the butterfly puppets, we moved around and danced to one of Mickey’s favorite songs.

Make a Fruity Smoothie
We talked a lot about food and different fruits that the hungry Caterpillar ate, which made us want to prepare something for our tummy. We then tried to mix all the fruits to make a delicious smoothie. Yummy!

Park Time
It was freezing cold today so our teachers made sure we were all warm enough with our jackets on and zipped up. We had a fabulous time playing and running around with Flowers Class in the green area.

Thanks for a wonderful day. Stay warm. Stay well. Stay healthy. Stay happy.
We love you all
