“Baked Goodies” Part Two!

Yesterday’s “Baked Goodies” sensory activity was jam packed with “Aha” moments that stimulated creativity and curiosity that we had to have a continuation of it this morning. The same play dough mixed with oats and grains was used but we had different tools to play with it. We had popsicle sticks, colored plastic mosaics, feathers, the animal printed paper cup artwork that we did in the past weeks, and a long mirror.

Together with John, C & R made soba noodles by rolling the dough and later slicing it into thin strips. They served it in paper cups and reminded everyone to be careful because it’s hot! A was busy making pancakes by squishing the dough flat and added “toppings” by using plastic mosaics. S made several pieces of pancakes and placed a popsicle stick in each of it… making sure that the sticks all stood upright. K first observed everyone and later started getting his hands busy with play dough with the help of wooden toy cars. P liked poking popsicle sticks into a cup of play dough. T and Erika had fun making flowers by pushing in plastic mosaics around a ball of play dough and tucking feathers behind their ears.

Assorted Colorful Play Area

Our yoga mat play area looked busy with community blocks, assorted counting animals, and colored tiles on top of it. With Nanako, H, J, and J did tandem playing in stacking blocks, categorizing by shades of color, and making patterns. L and K took the challenge of trying to figure out how to arrange the blocks to fit inside a wooden container.

Land Terrain Project

We added a whole lot more of “earthy” components on our land terrain project! With a tic-tac-toe grid as a guide, K occupied himself by pasting tiny sponges onto the template to resemble dry rice paddies. With Liezel, our wooden cars went on a rather “wild” drive across the bumpy grounds of our land terrain.

Circle Time

We are getting familiar with the lyrics to Amy Liz’s “Slippery Fish”! We aim to widen our English vocabulary through action songs. Erika had a little surprise for us during our morning roll call. Instead of gently patting our heads for us to introduce ourselves, she showed us our pictures! We were rather “stunned” to see our photos… to the point that some of us even checked if we were wearing the same outfit as seen on our respective photos. Having various ways of learning each other’s name is fun!

Inspired by yesterday’s learning moment of “small”, “medium”, and “large” during the “Baked Goodies” Sensory play, we were introduced to the “Elephant Family”, the “Giraffe Family” and the “Panda Siblings”. The babies of the families represented the concept of the size “small”, the mommies for “medium”, and the daddies for “large”. Big brother panda represented “big” and little sister panda was for “small”. We hope to widen our knowledge about sizes through animals in the coming days.

Park Time with Flowers Class

It’s our second time to go to the park and we were delighted to see our friends from Flowers Class when we arrived. For some of us, it was our first time to meet the older kids of Ohana so we had a chance to use of social skills by introducing ourselves to them. It was a wonderful experience to be able to mingle and play with them as we get to learn a lot of new skills from them such as using more force and strength when kicking a ball to make go farther. A few of us even got involved in a problem solving situation with some Flowers children when John found his feet tied up with a rope!

We hope you are having a lovely Wednesday.

Love,

Buds Class Children
