More about our bodies
As we grow up, every part of our body grows up with us. Our brains get more wrinkly with knowledge, our bones become thicker and longer making us taller, and our muscles grow bigger and gives us more strength. It’s so much fun to learn about the body and the more we learn about our bodies, the more curious we get and we want to know more about ourselves. Today, we had Gym class to put our body into motion! Before we started gym class, we gathered into a circle and named the parts of our bodies and what they can do.
Nimo: What can our body parts do?
C: *Points at nose* Smell.
K: Mouth, it’s for eating and talking and we our head is for thinking.
T: Your neck holds your head.
K: Or else your face will fall down.
Z: We use our shoulders to shrug.
D: Arms for swimming!
C: (Arms for) grabbing things and do elbow bumps with another person.
T: (Hands) to grab things and wiggle our fingers.
Z: Our body is for shaking.
Nimo: What do you think is inside our body?
B: A heart.
Y: Cucumber.
K: Your lungs.
C: Your organs.
K: Legs for walking.
C: Your backbone also helps for walking.
D: Bicycle!
T: Toes for wiggling.
After briefly talking about how each of our parts work, we all stood up to move them. We began from the top by rotating our heads and went all the way down to our toes and using them to help us balance on one foot. We sang a fun song called, “Highway Number One”, at the end of the song Nimo would sing, “And she/he said” and point to a friend to tell us a set of motions to do. We would do the motions together then sing the song from the beginning again until Nimo called on another friend. Each of us got a chance to choose some fun movements to do with our friends! We also played some freeze dance before we began our circle time.
Our Question of the Day today was, “Is it okay to be curious?”, everyone in Flowers answered, “Yes”.
Z: Curious means, you want to know something.
Nimo: That’s right Z! So, what can you do if you want to know something. If you are curious about something.”
C: Ask someone that knows, or look up a book.
K: Use an Ipad.
Nimo: What do I do with an Ipad? Lick it?
T: You can’t lick it, if you do you will get bzzzzzzzzt. It’s ouchie.
Z: You can watch something on it. I can do it on my mommy’s phone.
B: I look up things on mommy’s phone.
Nimo: Can you do it by yourself?
Z: Yes!
B: I need mommy to help me.
We continued the conversation that Vieda started yesterday. We briefly went over the parts that covered our bodies and we returned to our “private” parts.
Nimo: Our private parts have names. Just like how we call our head a “head” and our toes “toes”. Does anyone know what the boy’s private parts are called?
C: Is it P… p…?
A few of us had an idea of what the name could be, but we were a little bit hesitant on saying it. Shelley just happened to stop by and joined us.
Shelley: Would you like me to help you?
Flowers: Yes!
Shelley: The boys have a Penis and the girls have a Vagina.
Nimo: Just like the rest of our body, the penis and vagina are important names for the important parts of our body. There’s nothing silly about these names, do we always laugh when we say "arms"?
Flowers: No!
Shelley: That’s right! Just like your names, they aren’t silly.
Nimo: As you grow up your penis and vaginal will grow up too, and it is perfectly okay to be curious and want to know what is going on. However, is it ok to try and look at your friend’s penis or vagina, or show it to other people?
Flower: No!
C: Only show to mommy or daddy.
T: And the doctor.
K: You can ask the doctor.
Nimo: Who else can you ask?
D: Mommy or daddy.
Nimo: Anyone else?
B: Vieda, because she is a girl.
K: The boys can ask Nimo.
Nimo: You can definitely ask your teachers, we can help you understand what you are curious about. So please don’t ever feel embarrassed to ask! Please remember not to show it to other people or ask to see other people’s.
We closed out our circle time with one more round of Freeze dance and then had our lunch. After we finished our lunch we had one more activity to work on. In the morning we made our very own Manikins from pipe cleaners! For our quiet time, we made a pose for our manikins and drew them on a piece of paper!
K: We can’t draw and move at the same time, but our dolls make it easier to draw! Mine is playing mario kart!
C: Mine is doing muscle pose!
T: Ballet pose, she doesn’t have a name yet.
B: Ballet.
Z: She is doing everything!
The rest of us that couldn’t do it today will do theirs tomorrow!
Hope everyone had a lovely day indoors, or perhaps in the rain! Have a lovely evening and see you all again tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
