Funday Friday!

Today we had T back in Buds − we are glad that he is better now and it was nice to see him play with K for the first time! On the other hand, for some friends and teacher it was the last day to play with M whose last day of school will be next Tuesday :( Outside we could hear the sound of pitter patter all day long. When seeing the wet balcony, M pointed out and said, “water” and T said, “puddle.” Our balcony was indeed all wet and slippery from the raindrops. Inside the classroom, this is what it looked like…

Farm Featured Play dough Play
It was the first time for some of us to play with play dough in the classroom. Pity we couldn’t enjoy the process of making it together like the pre–Corona days but we still had lots of fun with Erika who showed us so many different ways to play with it. She sprinkled some oats and corn kernels in our hands and we mixed them into our batch of play dough. While most of us liked to sprinkle them like shower on to the play dough, K was very specific about his work–he opened a hole in the play dough and carefully placed them inside. Meanwhile chef H, R and P were very busy cooking pizza and gyoza :)

Farm Animal Foot Prints
You probably know by now that we love sensory play! Each day the teachers are introducing us to fun and different sensory experiences. Today, we used the farm animal figurines and dipped them into trays of yellow, brown and green paint. K picked the animals one by one, in the paint and then on to the paper. Soon the animals were lined up so neatly that it almost looked like the animals were ready to graze in the field. S and J had so much fun walking the animals across the paper and making the sounds like “oink oink,” “baaa,” “maah” and “mooo.” For some, it was a challenge just to put on the smocks – we will soon have to be comfortable in our smocks since we need to wear our smocks whenever we do any messy play!

Floor Activities
Here, we enjoyed some quality time with Liezel and Tamara. We built towers with big Lego blocks, looked at the pictures from the Life Books (there is probably not a day when we don’t ask to pick up the Life Books!) and listened to the teachers sing and read stories.

Circle Time
We started our circle with our Good morning song and to the teachers’ surprise, R can almost recite everyone’s names! Tell me, who does not enjoy playing hide and seek? We played this game where we had to guess what animal was hiding behind the barn. Nanako gave us clues by making the sound of the animal and showing some of the body parts such as the tail and hooves. Usually we were able to guess by the sound and it was so exciting to wait and see the animal hiding inside! We also read a funny story called Farm Chase by Rod Campbell about the angry bull whose chased after the cow who chased after…and so. In the end, the mouse who was being chased after the cat found a nice place to hide and went to sleep. So we pretended to be the mouse and lay on the floor to snooze…zzz…We woke up hearing the teachers sing Wake up, wake up it’s a lovely day and got up to make some silly yoga poses – tree, duck, cow, cat and some spontaneous moves we came up with!

Park Time
Yet again, we made a visit to the (pretend) park and it was as though we walked into the green area where we usually spend our time at Step Park! We had so much fun throwing, rolling, kicking, catching and bouncing the balls with our friends and teachers. K, M, J and H were particularly overjoyed just seeing the balls! After collecting the balls back in the net, we also did some shaking movements with our body parts then with our favorite egg shakers. When the music stopped (by accident), S looked up and said, “stop” so we decided to do a freeze dance just before lunch time :)

Rain or shine, our day is filled with lots of fun learning!

Love from all the children in Buds xoxo
