Dancing in the Moonlight

“The moon can be so beautiful,” he (Gerald the Giraffe) whispered with a sigh. Did you get to see the full moon shining so brightly last night? We hope you did… if we’re lucky, we might be able to still enjoy it tonight.

Assorted Play

Materials: Light Table + Different Shades of Blue & Yellow Plastic Mosaics & Pompoms + Animal Toys + Stacking Blocks + Gem Stickers + Old Cellophane + Matching Cards

Turning the light table on instantly adds an illuminating glow to objects atop of it. This morning, our minds were tickled with creativity when using these materials.

R involved herself in a beauty service wherein she she peeled off small gem stickers and stuck it around the eye images on the matching cards. J was busy wrapping cellophane around colored slides and giving it away as treats to her friends. T and R had a wonderful time getting to know each other by observing & watching each other play which later transitioned into an opportunity to communicate through sharing.

Lots of learning was buzzing around this activity… cognitive, fine motor and social skills… check!

Solving Puzzles with Liezel

Liezel is on a mission to help us solve puzzles! She brought out a large scale puzzle with images of a mouse and numbers on it. “This goes here!”, “This don’t fit.”, “Where this go?”, “How about this one?” we’re the common phrases that could be heard while putting together this puzzle. Can you guess who amongst us was the most patient in completing it… 😆?

Legos Out On the Balcony

Playing out on the balcony provides a new experience for us although we use the same toys. It enhances our younger friends’ gross motor skills as they learn how to balance and be aware of their body coordination. Our older friends get to practice using their listening ears as they need to remember not to climb over the tubs and bang their hands on the shield so as not to disrupt the other classes.

Earthquake Drill

We had our earthquake drill earlier today and our teachers are happy to report that we did well in staying calm while following instructions to keep us safe. And most of us had our safety helmets on the entire evacuation period too!

BUDS Sports Day Banner + Chant

We started working on our BUDS banner by adding colors on the letters. A lot of us had a blast using dot markers!

It has already been an established fact that we love the song “Baby Shark” by Pinkfong. Our ears were in a surprise when Erika played us different renditions of it during the past weeks. Perhaps our mommies & daddies can update our playlist by including these artists’ renditions of “Baby Shark”.

1. Pinkfong & Luis Fonsi
2. Baby Shark Lullaby - Chilled Version
3. Toddler Tunes

In congruence with this, our teachers changed the lyrics to make us a chant for Sports Day… it goes:

To the tune of Baby Shark

🎶We are BUDS CLASS (doo-do-doo-do-doo) 3x
We are BUDS!

We are GREAT! (doo-do-doo-do-doo) 3x
We are GREAT!

We are WINNERS! (doo-do-doo-do-doo) 3x
We are WINNERS!

Say HOORAY! 🎶

Giraffes 🦒 Can’t Dance 💃🏻 🕺🏼?!?

Since we are celebrating the harvest moon soon and our ongoing theme about animals, we were read the book, “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. While reading the book, we compared the picture of the animal from the book to its corresponding toy figure. Why can’t the giraffe toy figure bend its legs and neck like the one in the photo…? 🤔

In the story, the animals had a “Jungle Dance”. We recreated our own “Jungle Dance” by dancing along to the song “Tequila” by The Champs. This song sure had a catchy beat! We learned the words “waltz”, “rock ‘n’ roll”, “tango”, and “cha-cha”.

Gerald the Giraffe got inspired to dance to his own tune when he saw the beautiful moon. With “The Nutcracker: Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy” playing pranced and stretched to our hearts’ delight.

We wanted to created a big moon too but oops! Our moon was cut into four quarters! How can we form it into a big circle to make it look like a moon? Using a hula hoop as a guide, we tried to put the pieces together but uh oh… we all wanted to get our hands on the paper pieces that we ended up having to pause the activity and have a long talk about using gentle hands and waiting for our turn. Perhaps tomorrow we can complete the moon.

And oh, we also went out to the park today and saw a BIG caterpillar 🐛 along the way!

We hope you are having a lovely Tuesday.

Love,
Buds Class Children
