How Tall Are We?

Free play time was quite busy, as usual. Some of our friends finished their Otsukimi artwork, and at the back of the room, we played with some big Lego blocks that we borrowed from Buds class. K, O, Br, and L used it to make a house for Wan- chan, L’s toy dog. H, L, C, and S made a tower and used it to measure how tall S is. For circle time, we used the big Lego blocks again- and we did something similar to what the girls did- we measured our height using Lego blocks!

We remember that every month, the teachers make us stand against a chart with numbers, lines, and pictures. They always tell us that they’re checking our height- which is how tall we are. Now, Pauline said that it’s interesting to check our height using Lego blocks.

K was our first volunteer, and Lea helped her stack the blocks beside him. All of us counted together- we counted sixteen blocks! Pauline said she would record it and wrote Kenzo’s name on the whiteboard and put numbers 1 and 6 for sixteen. We then measured our other friends’ heights, compared them, and checked who had the same measurements. L, H, O, M, and C measured the same as Kenzo- 16. We counted 15 Lego blocks for Sara, 17 blocks for K, B, C,and A; and 18 blocks for L. Maybe next time we can compare numbers and talk about which numbers are big and which ones are small?

It was really fun to measure our height with Lego blocks- we can’t believe we can stack up the blocks THAT high! Pauline stood beside the blocks and 16 of them just reached her tummy. But, if we wanted to, we can keep on stacking them higher to measure the teacher’s height! Maybe that’s something we can do next time, too, hey?

We had our snacks and went back to visit the pond again this time. We used our bug sprays before we headed out, but, unfortunately, some of us still got bitten by mosquitoes! The teachers thought that the next time we would go back to the pond, they would bring spare bug sprays so that we don’t get bitten again.

The pond looked different today, and the water was a little bit clearer. We saw a lot of baby fish, and bigger, orange fish. Some friends kept looking for sharks and alligators, which made the teachers chuckle.

We saw a tiny stream where Kai allowed us to use sticks to poke into it and the mud and rocks. It was like a little nature hike for us! Heehee! Maybe next time that would be an interesting trip for Petals Class- exploring nature! With tons of bug spray, of course.

That’s all for today- how about you? How was your day?

Love,
