Keirou No Hi

Happy Monday everyone! Today was a very special day for some of us because our daddies who usually go to work in the morning had some time to take us to school! We were so overjoyed and excited to tell our teachers and friends this morning! Let’s not forget to talk about who’s going to come pick us up at home time too! We had a very short morning free play and craft time because we had a very busy schedule today. We gobbled up our snacks and headed over to the park. The park today was fairly crowded because other moms and dads didn’t have work today too. We had a great time running around in the beautiful sunshine!

We hurried back to school to make sure we were in time for a special event! We saw Nimo setting up the computer so we asked him, “Is someone doing zoom?”, and Nimo replied, “yes!”. The biggest question was, “who is it?”.

Nimo asked us, “Do you know what day it is today?”

S: Holiday.

Cs: Keito no Hi.

Nimo: Bingo! It is a holiday, and it sounds very close to keito. Today is Keirou no Hi. What is Keirou no Hi?

K: Grandparents Day.

Nimo: Exactly today is the day we show our respect to our grandparents. Some people go and visit their grandparents, but some of our grandparents live far away or they can’t meet because of the virus. Some of your grandparents said they wanted to visit flowers class so for this week we will be inviting some of your grandparents! Let’s see who our special guest is today!

Nimo clicked and tapped a few things on the computer and two faces popped up on our wall. K quietly raised his hand and said, “It’s my grandma and grandpa. Grandma’s name is Baaba, and grandpa is Jiiji. They live in Tokyo.”. After welcoming our special guests, Baaba read us the first story, a Japanese version of “Swimmy” by Leo Lionni. Unfortunately, the video wasn’t working very well so the screen stopped and didn’t move. Nimo got our version of swimmy and showed us the pictures as we listen to Baaba read us the book.

After our first story, we had a chance to ask K’s grandparents some questions! We could either choose to speak to them in Japanese or English.

M: どんな絵本がありますか? (What pictures books do you have?)

Jijii and Baaba had lots of books! They showed us a few, some that we have seen before.

K: Their bookshelf is very very long. They have more books than Flowers.

M: ネズミの本ある? (Do you have a book about mice?)

They just so happened to have a book called, “Frederick” also by Leo Lionni. Jiiji read it for us. After Jiiji finished our second story time we had lots more questions we wanted to ask!

A: Do you like Bananas?

Jiiji: 大好き! (I love them!) Do you like bananas?

A: Yes!

Z: I like sparkly things, do you like sparkly things?

Jiiji: We like!

R wanted to come to the computer to show his smile and wave to Jiiji and Baaba.

D: Hi! Konnichiwa!

Y: My name is Y.

Baaba: 何をして遊ぶのが好きですか?

Y: Game!

Jiiji: We play games too with K-chan.

K: We play lots of games.

Cs: 何色が好きですか?

Jiiji: I like blue!

Baaba: 何色が好きですか?

Cs: Light green.

S: 本好きですか?

Jiiji: Yes! Do you like reading books?

S: Ya!

Jiiji:今日は皆に会えて楽しかったです!

We thanked Jiiji and Baaba for the lovely storytime and said our goodbyes!

We finished our wonderful day with a few games of Musical Chairs! Thank you everyone for another marvelous Monday! Enjoy your evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
