Sharing and Caring

Some of our friends playing in the balcony during free play.

During free play in the morning the teachers helped us make a ramp for the cars in the big area. We also played with farm and jungle animals on the table with grass underneath it. There were sticks and rocks for us to use on the field if we wanted to. On the other table there were different kinds of leaves, grass and sticks. There were foxtail spikelets, evergreen leaves and pine leaves. We used it combined with a stick and rubber band to make paint brushes. We helped insert the leaves and spikelets into the rubber band that we tied around the stick. We’ll have to wait and see what it looks like when we use it next week! . Near the end of free play a few friends decided they wanted to play in the garden and we ALL went to the garden to play with the rocks, sticks, pans, sifter and insect box. We love to play in groups! When we heard the clean up song we began cleaning up immediately. Today we even helped the teachers clean up the table by wiping it down.

After making a circle we sat down and sang how we felt today. Most of us said, “Good!” and “Happy!”. Only one friend felt tired which is also ok. Today we played a game in the circle. We worked as a team to pass the ball around the circle. We had to pass the ball to our neighbor in the circle before the song ended. We were good and quick at passing the ball so we cheered and high fived our friends when we were done. Next round the song sped up and we had to do it faster. After getting good at passing the ball around, our friend Harry the Hare joined us. We respect Harry very much and gave him a high five when he joined. He said he would like to play with us and that we could pass him around. Since we wanted to take care of him we had to use our gentle hands. We used both hands and made sure we were careful when passing Harry. Oh no! One of our friends dropped Harry on his head. He told us that most of us were very gentle but his head hurt a bit because of the drop. No worries though; Harry was courageous and was willing to give us another try. We tried one more time to pass Harry around and…. Yey!! We did it very carefully and gave each other high fives, elbow touches and hugs. Harry was also so proud of us. Before leaving he told us that not only do we have to use our gentle hands on him but we can use it on objects as well. We can take care of books, drink bottles, backpacks, toys and more. To prove we can be gentle with books we passed around a book to our friends. Sure enough we can do it! We gave ourselves a big pat on the back and said, “Good job, me!” Thanks Harry for showing us how to share and use our gentle hands.

We’re getting used to the routine in Petals Class now so we know when we finish snack it’s either park time or circle time. Today was park time and we knew that we should use the toilet, wash our hands, put on our smock, change our shoes and play in the garden or read a book. We did exactly that before going to the park. On the way to the park we thought about what we could do with the rings that we brought. One friend said that we could play “1,2,3 Go!”  with the rings. It’s a game where the teachers take the rings and roll it on the ground and we run after it and catch it. Sounds like a great idea! When we arrived at the park we were surprised to see that all the Ohana classes were in the green area! We got to play with Flowers Class and Buds Class friends and teachers. It’s always fun running around, kicking balls and playing “1,2,3, Go!”, with everyone. It was another great day in Petals Class. We hope you’ve enjoyed our stories this week. There’s more to come next week! Have a fantastic weekend!

Love always,
