Another Day to Learn Something New

IMG_9371.jpeg

Lots of hugs were exchanged today! We are gradually getting used to each other’s company and the class’ routines that it feels like we have been going to school for a long time now. Also, we had an incident that allowed us to realize that we can fix mistakes. We hope you enjoy reading today’s journal!

Painting A Box

A big box was sitting in the room… what do we do with? Our teachers didn’t mention what the box is for yet just asked us to paint it with the color red. Being able to paint a medium that’s of the same height as we are provides us with opportunities to use our cognitive, gross motor, and social skills all at the same time. In order to be able to paint most part of the box, we found out that we had to go around it and move our body up & down. Being aware of social cues such as giving each other space and turn to paint enabled us to learn how to work together.

Gone Fishing Activity

A little blue pond made out of balance beams and sheer cloth was set up in the inner part of the room. In the blue pond, we went fishing for a variety of sea creatures such as starfish, shark, whales, and turtles. The texture of the sheer cloth made it challenging for us to keep our balance when we stand/walk on it as it glides on the floor. With that, we were able to pretend that we actually have water as we need to be cautious when the walking on slippery floor. H even had the idea of “swimming” on the sheer cloth as it allows her to glide on the floor.

Light Table + Flora & Insects

Our light table was up for use and became animated with the use of see through images of dried plants, animal shaped cellophane cutouts, and insect figures. C, M & J counted the leaves and petals while S & P occupied themselves with playing with the insects.

Art on the Balcony

Same activity but in a different place. Our teachers have observed that we liked climbing up to the balcony which is why our first group artwork was placed outside. We got to use dot markers and crayons to further make our art livelier.

Circle Time

Patti Shukla’s “Jump” is becoming a favorite of ours as we request it to be played even before our teachers ask us what song we want to use for our warm up. Our jumps have becoming higher each day!

We sang our “Good Morning” song and are getting used to saying out our own & friends’ names. Instead of being given individual scarves, we all used one big scarf that each one of has had to hold on to be able to do lots of movements in unison. It was important to keep our listening ears on during this activity.

There are also times that we can get too excited and have a lot of energy left before being able to settle down. Our teachers play Susie Davies-Splitter & Phil Splitter’s “Song the the Mountains” which serves as our signal to calm down and have rest time. Perhaps our mommies and daddies can also play this at home and encourage us to ‘calm down’ if needed… 😊.

Fixing a Book

When Erika brought out the boom “Peek-A-Zoo” by Marie Torres Cimarusti, a few of us got really excited and wanted to get their hands on it that a page got accidentally ripped off. Uh-oh… the book doesn’t look like it’s in a good shape anymore. Our teachers felt really sad with what happened and asked us if there’s something we could do to fix the book. It was suggested that a roll of tape could perhaps help… and when we saw that it was possible to fix the book with it, our spirits lit up as we were given an opportunity to fix the accident. It saddened us to see our teachers sad with what happened but we are glad that we were guided to find a way to fix it!

We hope you are having a lovely day!

Love,
Buds Class Children
