Our First Day of School
August 23rd - Our First Day of School
Welcome to Ohana International School! We are so excited to welcome everybody and to meet our new friends and parents in our care. Upon arriving at school, our teachers and friends started playing music and it filled the air with sounds and rhythms from the drums.
There’s another type of music we heard today and it was the sound of the children’s chorus (crying due to transition period), which is okay. We all have our own ways of getting settled and to understand the people and environment around us.
Table Activities
The tables were filled with long strip of white paper, puzzles and some connecting toys on the table. For the white paper, we used some crayons to scribble and lines. Our tiny fingers are still learning how to hold the crayons properly. In due time, we’ll learn how to handle it and make our own drawings.
The puzzles were quite popular as well because we loved looking at the animal photos. We spent a long time figuring out which puzzle piece goes where. We also tried matching the colors of the puzzle pieces until we realized that some color could go together to form combinations.
Music in the air
One of the highlights of our day was the music experience that we all have in the classroom. We brought out our drums and some percussion instruments that we could play with. We danced to the tune of Baby Shark, Wheels on the bus, Twinkle, twinkle little star and Mary had a little lamb. Also, the egg shakers were a popular thing here as well.
Circle time
We gathered in a small circle and started singing our Good morning song. Then, we got a mirror that John showed us. We were quite surprised to see our faces in the mirror. The reflection was quite entertaining as our friends were smiling as they saw themselves in the mirror. As we passed it around, our teachers asked about our names. Well done , Buds class!
Story time
We read the book called “I went walking”. Most of our friends were so interested and they even pointed out the names of each animal in the book. We are so glad to see and learn more about animals today.
Thank you so much for a great first day. It was really fun even though it was just a short day today at Ohana. We hope to see you again tomorrow for another wonderful day!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds Class
