Paralympic Medals

Happy Thursday everyone! We had such an amazing day! We started our morning by singing Happy Birthday to Ryan because today is his and his brother Rhys’ special day! We finished up our special banner for C and we played with the cork blocks. We ate our snacks early and then headed to the park.

It was blazing outside today, we made sure to drink lots of water to keep ourselves hydrated. We had a ton of fun playing tag with our friends and playing catch like usual. Because it was so hot today, we had a much shorter time at the park and to cool down we finally had our water play! As we changed into our swim wear, our teachers set up the sprinkler pool for us. The cool water felt great on our overheating bodies! We had a ton of fun splashing the water around. Every now and then a “storm” would come and Nimo would bring a watering can full of water and empty it out on our heads! Those of us that didn’t want our heads wet, we just stepped out of the pool and waited for the storm to go away. Before we finished our water play, we tried to make sure we didn’t waste the water in the pool by using them to water our plants. We used our hands and feet to splash the water as far as we can so the water would go into the flower pots all over the office balcony. We dried our bodies and changed our clothes.

At this point we were all fairly tired. We ran around and sweated a lot at the park and shortly after that, we were screaming and splashing the water in excitement! To close out our eventful day we had a short circle time to continue our topic from yesterday. B read our question of the day for us which said, “Did you like the water play?”, to our teacher’s surprise, we all voted no. L said, “Wait a minute! That’s not right! Some one switched the yes and no!”, seemed like one of friends played a silly trick on us! Seeing how many smiles we saw up in the balcony, there’s no way anyone didn’t enjoy the pool time! Our friends shared how they are great swimmers in a big pool.

L: My brother can float on his back like this!

A: I float too, I swim like this.

M: I don’t know how to swim.

Nimo: Neither do I.

K: Wait…but you’re a fish, how can you not swim?

We talked about how swimming is a very popular sport in the Olympics and there are lots of ways to swim.

M: I know a girl that can swim like that (butterfly).

L: A does that swim (backstroke).

A: I practicing that one! (Crawl).

Nimo: Do you remember what you get when you win?

Flower: Medal!

Nimo: 1st Place?

M: Gold!

Nimo: 2nd?

L: Silver

Nimo: 3rd?

M: Bronze

M: What about 4th place?

K: Only 1, 2, and 3, get a medal.

We went back to talk about a topic we discussed on Tuesday, Nimo showed us a picture of some athletes putting their medals close to their ears.

M: They are checking the sound?

L: They use their ears and they shake it. Then they can know if their medal is gold or silver.

Nimo: Does anyone remember how many small balls were in the Gold Medal?

A: 28

N: Silver?

R: 20

Bronze was a little bit tricky, so Nimo and Vieda gave us hints for us to find the right answer.

Y: 24?

Vieda: It’s smaller than 20.

L: Is it 5?

V: More than 5.

K: 21?

Nimo used the small pebbles and laid out 20 pebbles and 21 pebbles. K easily recognized that 21 is bigger than 20, so it can’t be 21.

A: 8?

M: 9!

M: 10

Y: 89?

L: 13

R: 18

Vieda: Last hint, the answer is 2 less than 18.

Nimo laid out 18 pebbles and took two away, we quietly counted in our heads, then…

Flower: Sixteen!

Now for our activity, Nimo got 3 tin containers that looked exactly the same, in one he put in 28 pebbles, in another one 20, and the last one 16. He closed the container and shuffled them under a blanket so we couldn’t see. We paired up with a partner and we shook the container to try and guess which of the three was the “Gold Medal”. It was a tricky game, but we turned on our super hearing and many of us were able to guess correctly!

Hope everyone has a lovely evening and gets a lot of rest for another busy day tomorrow! Thank you all and see you all again for Fantabulous Friday!

Love,

Flowers
