Happy Birthday!
We took a break today from all the Olympic- and Paralympic- fun we’ve been having and celebrated our birthday friends for the month of July.
After doing our morning jobs, we turned our attention to the tables, which had some beads for some threading activity. We also had our 3D magnetic puzzles out. The other table had toy sea animals. We really like the new layout of our classroom now, and L had a wonderful idea of taking some of the toys, and playing with them on the balcony. We decided to follow her, and it was great to play outside!
Some of us played with our toy kitchen area, and we brought our sea animals there. We pretended to cook them up then eat them!
We packed away early so we could also have early snacks. Our teachers said that we’re going to have a party today!
“It’s my birthday party,” A said.
“It’s my happy birthday,” H said.
“Well, we need to finish our snacks so we can find out whose birthday are we celebrating today…” Pauline said. R looked at her with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Pauline looked at him as she secretly gave him a “Ssshhh..” sign, putting her finger to her lips. Together, they exchanged secret smiles. Hmm. What’s going on?
Kai set up our computer and projector. After a few minutes, our visitors arrived-- it was C and D, R’s mommy and daddy; and Y and S, K’s mommy and daddy! We sang our “Good Morning” song, and welcomed them to Petals.
“Do you know why they’re here?” Pauline asked.
“No,” E replied. Our teachers told us that it’s going to be R’s and K’s birthday really soon! The teachers sat them on our special birthday table. We thought that they didn’t look like birthday celebrants yet, so Hiori said they were missing some “Presents!”
Our presents for them were the cards we made. Pauline said that we were all going to take a big group picture after the party so it can be glued inside the card. After that, we said that they needed some birthday hats-- K chose a birthday headband, and R chose a birthday tiara.
The teachers then brought out their special cake- it was made out of paper cups because we can’t have real cakes yet because of the pandemic. We sang them a happy birthday- both of them were excited to blow out the candles!
The parents prepared something special for today’s party. First, S read “The Rolling Rice Ball” which is a Japanese folklore. It told the story of an old man who accidentally rolled rice balls into a hole where mice lived. They rewarded the old man’s kindness by offering him lots of delicious treats! Yum!
The second story was also about food- it was called “Dragons Love Tacos” by Adam Rubin. It was read to us by D and it was about how dragons love all kinds of tacos- except for spicy salsa. They don’t like spicy salsa. Both Kai and Pauline commented that they loooove spicy salsa! The book also lists what we should put inside the tacos. But, near the end of the story, the boy put something in the tacos that shouldn’t be there-- Uh- oh! It was really an interesting book, and Rhys specifically chose it to share with us.
We had our group photo after and bid goodbye to the mommies and daddies. Rhys and Kenta shared their goody bags with everyone-- Thank you, R and K!
We didn’t have time to go to the park, so we chose to stay indoors. It also looked like rain was going to fall anytime soon. Our birthday celebrants chose to play “Here Comes the Boulder”, which we played with Kai. It’s always a lot of fun, so we had a blast!
That’s all for today- how about you? How was your day?
Love,
All the happy bunnies in Petals Class
