Ribbons and Rhythmic Dance
Ribbons and Rhythmic Dance
Oh the grace that comes along with being a rhythmic gymnast. Inspired by the butterflies that we have been seeing around the neighborhood with their beautiful wings fluttering, we have our recycled newspaper ribbon strips that acted like our wings that helped us have a glimpse of what it’s like to be a rhythmic gymnast.
Designing Our Newspaper Ribbon Strips
Continuing on with our sustainable quest that started on the latter part of the recently concluded school year, we made newspaper ribbon strip with John yesterday. Together with Liezel and Erika we added colors to it by stamping it with dotted markers. With this activity, we created an ABAB type of pattern by alternating colors such as blue (A), green (B), blue (A), green (B) & red (A), yellow (B), red (A), yellow (B). Making patterns helps in further developing our cognitive skills. Apart from making the ABAB pattern, we also made a simple flower template by stamping five dots around a big circle.
Connecting Clips and Pegs
Another activity that was available are the connecting clips and pegs. These toys help strengthen our fingers, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. It also tickles our imagination as some of us got really creative and formed different structures out of it. Can you guess what one of us formed?
Dr. Jean Feldman’s “Better Bodies and Brains, Vol. 1” Inspired Music & Dance Session
Let’s start getting physical! Dr. Jean Feldman is the singer from some of the the class’ favorite songs “Banana Dance” and “Tooty Ta”. We moved and stretched to her songs, “Morning Stretch”, “ABC Kick Box”, and “Letter Pops”. Using the newspaper ribbon strips, we heard a lot of new terms to help widen our vocabulary such as “prance”, “spin”, “stretch” and “twirl”.
Tomorrow we will be exploring more materials that we can use while doing rhythmic gymnastics.
Shooting Balls with Liezel
Ball games are a big part of the Olympics and so is it here in our class. Together with Liezel, we practiced our shooting skills by trying to shoot the balls inside a basket at a certain distance. Of course, aside from shooting, our playful selves thought of other ways of using the balls and baskets. Some of us kicked, played throw and catch, and even tried fitting ourselves in the basket!
And with all the busy activities that kept our bodies moving throughout the day, listening to Susie and Phil Splitter’s “Song to the Mountains” helped us calm down and focus on our breathing.
A Walk Around the Neighborhood
We took on a different route for our outdoor activity this morning. Instead of turning left to head to the park, temple, and pond, we headed right as we exited the school and walked around the busy streets of the neighborhood. We saw a lot of different stores and pointed out which fruits and vegetables we love to eat when we passed by the grocery store. Seeing the display of the toy store made us excited as it had a wide array of forest animal figures. Our sense of smell also got a treat as we passed by a bakery and bushes of nice scented flowers.
We hope you had a bright and wonderful day!
Love,
Buds Class Children
