What makes you happy?

It was a beautiful day of love and happiness in the classroom as we started our time in Buds class. We greeted our friends and teachers with a nice good morning and started working on our morning jobs.

 Table Activities

It was another great stuff we had on our tables. We became quite curious about the tables with lots of fun materials prepared for all of us. First, we had the Bubble Wrap and Dot markers. There was one thing that we had to do before engaging in these fun activities. We  had to put on our smocks! Everybody needed to have these on.

On the other table, there were some sand and sensory table, rice  and tools that can be used to transfer them from one container to another.

Erika was so kind to help us out in painting on the easel using newspaper. As part of our experimentation, we used cars to make patterns on the newspaper with blue, orange and yellow colors.

On the floor area, we had some animal figures. We loved seeing the crocodiles, elephant and tigers. We made their animal sounds and it was great to see how our friends were able to make these wonderful sounds that we could also follow.

Water Play

It was great  to see how our friends became so into water play as our balcony was full of water in the trough. We had a new ladder on the way to the balcony so we had an easy access anytime. What fun it was!

Circle time

We started our session by moving around our bodies to different sounds of vehicles. We moved like boats, cars, trains and helicopters. The trickiest one was spinning around and around until we all got so dizzy. It was really nice to do movements and discovering more of our space. These are all important skills because we learned how to manage and regulate our bodies together with our friends and teachers.

For tomorrow’s Family Day event, we also practiced some songs that we’ll be singing with our parents. We sang Hokey, Pokey, Atuttita and Ring around the Rosie. It was great to see our friends participate and danced around the classroom.

Chop-Chop gives a hug

One thing that we would like to do in Buds class is to give hugs to our friends. However, some of us still need to regulate how to hug gently so as our friends will feel okay when we do that. Chop-Chop the dog was there to show us how to do it properly. First, he went around the circle and gave each child a hug. We were quite excited to do this with him and we even stroked his back just to show him that we used our gentle hands.

Next, we tried it out with our teachers and friends. We went to our friends and did simple, gentle but full of love hugs to one another. It was amazing to see this moment. We also heard from some of our friends while we discussed this topic and this was how it went.

How do we give hugs to our friends?

Who wants to try?

O: I want to try.

K: K too.

Story Time

My friend is sad by Mo Willems

This book is so interactive and the children can actually predict the elephant’s feelings as we read through the whole book. It was funny that some of our friends were so engaged and they copied the elephant’s sad face and happy face. There was also a question that we “wondered” how to make people around us happy. Here are the responses that we got from the children.

Conversation

What can you do to make your friend feel happy?

E: Give a smile.

O: Happy!

K:  Happy M. M is happy because it’s K’s birthday soon.

S: Happy! Happy! Happy! (he kept on saying this during the whole session).

We walked to the temple near Ohana and there, we saw a big bee flying around the flowers. It looked so fantastic.

Then, we went to the pond. This time, we saw the fish and some tadpoles in it. Today was just full of amazing discoveries in and out of the classroom.

Thank you so much Ohana for another great day!

Lots of love,

All the children from Buds Class
