We didn’t know what a “docent” is when the teachers asked us, so Pauline told us that a docent helps you during your tour around the museum. She also told us that we can be a docent for a day! We saw some interesting paintings on our whiteboard, and she said that these are the paintings as we pretend to be in the Petals Class Museum.

When we become docents, we can explain what the painting is all about– which is what we’re going to do soon! We need to use our looking eyes to describe the painting– like what the picture is, what the colors are, or what’s happening in the picture.

We noticed that each of the paintings had a letter and a number. Pauline was going to pretend to be touring around the museum, and the docent will help her with the painting.

Z was the first to volunteer.

“Good morning! My name is Z, and I will be your docent,” she said.

“Umm.. Excuse me?” Pauline– the– museum– tourist said. “Could you tell me more about painting B1?” she asked.

“It’s a painting about a beach,” Z answered.

“Thank you! How about painting D4?” Pauline asked.

“D4 is a beautiful tree with the leaves falling down,” Z replied.

Here are what some of our friends had to say when they were a docent for a day:

H: Good morning, welcome to Petals Museum.

Museum Visitor: What is A8?

H: It’s an egg.

Museum Visitor: How about B1?

H: It’s swim in  the water.

Visitor: What is F3?

H: It’s a picture of flowers. It’s pink, yellow, pink, pink, and yellow.

Visitor: What is C6?

H: It’s a girl. It’s got hair ribbons and it’s got a purple dress.

S: Good morning, welcome to museum!

Visitor: Excuse me, what is painting A8?

S: Circles.

Visitor: And painting F3?

S: Flowers.

Visitor: What is painting E5?

A: It’s Tokyo Tower.

Visitor: How about painting B1?

A: It’s only a beach.

Y: Good morning!

Visitor: What is painting F22?

Y: Flowers.

Visitor: What is painting D4?

Y: It’s orange, red, and brown.

Visitor: What is C6?

R: A girl.

Visitor: How about painting B1?

R: It’s surfing.

A: Good morning, everybody! Welcome to Petals museum!

Visitor:  What is painting D4?

A: a tree!

Visitor: How about painting A8?

A: Circles.

Phew! Our museum visitor had lots of questions, but we were able to answer them! We didn’t have time as we were also going to the park– but maybe we can do this for free play time tomorrow, or maybe next circle time! The activity reminded us when we pretended to be on the plane and we were supposed to look for our seat numbers. It was a good practice for us to recognize letters and numbers.

After that, we went to the temple instead of the park, so we could have more time to play. We saw a roly-poly with Kai, and we enjoyed being chased by Sayaka and Pauline. We were shouting, “Catch me! Catch me!” and we would squeal with glee every time they would try to run after us.

That sums up what we had today– how about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the talented docents in Petals Class
