Our Ideas About Animal's Life Cycles
One of our friends said, “Wow, today is summer!”. Yes, it was indeed a warm day today. Some of us made sure to put on our sunny hats, while some took time to put on their sunscreen and bug spray, too before we went out for the park. With smiles as bright as the sunshine, we welcome the summer season!
Happy Mother’s Day again to all our wonderful MOMS! For our circle time’s news, we happily shared our Mom’s Day celebration.
Ke: I buy flowers for Mommy. Flowers color is pink and red.
Me: I bring flowers to Mommy. The flowers color is pink, red, light blue, purple, orange, white, yellow, and black. After I gave Mommy the flowers, we went to my friend’s house.
Ke: Me and my little brother gave chocolates to Mom and more things.
Ak: My Mother’s Day is like my friend came to my house. My Mom’s friends and we eat together snack. Kids play pool together but not put our body inside. It’s like a boat we need to stay out. It’s in my balcony. We played toys and water. It’s for the boat, like boat race. You spin the boat and let go of it and without holding, it moves. Spin it again and let go and it moves again. Like a life cycle, it goes on and on and on.
Li: I went lunch with my Mommy, Daddy, my brother, Grandpa and Grandma and I give green and pink flowers.
Ka: I made a special thing with butterfly. I have water in the balcony. It’s so cold and I like it!
What a lovely day to celebrate Mom’s Day! Thank you so much again Mommy/Mama/Okasan for all the love and care you shower us with every day!
CIRCLE TIME
Getting into our small groups makes sharing our ideas more exciting! Few days ago, we separated into 3 groups to share ideas about a topic. We had this opportunity to share our ideas before we started planting seeds for the carrots and sunflower.
Please read below to learn what each group had come up with.
Group 1 - HOW A FLOWER GROWS (Li, A and M)
Li: The seed is put it in the soil. Next, it became bigger.
Ad: You dig a hole, plant the seed and the soil back in the water. It will grow leaves and then flower.
Me: First is seed, soil and grow to a flower.
Questions:
Ka: How did you do this heart?
Li: Because I like to draw it.
Ak: What is the heart for?
Li: It is the seeds’ bag.
Ke: How does this turn to this?
Li: If you put the seed in the soil, it will grow leaves and then get taller.
Ch: What is this?
Li: It’s the seeds.
Group 2 – LIFE CYCLE of BUTTERFLY (Ka, Tr, and Ke)
Ka: First is egg, caterpillar then baby butterfly, sister butterfly then Mommy butterfly.
Ti: First is egg then it becomes a caterpillar on the leaf.
Ak: I think! I know! First is small egg, caterpillar and then eat so many things and leaves and then becomes butterfly.
Ke: First is that something in the ocean then the butterfly get bigger.
Questions:
Li: Why is the caterpillar black?
K: I’ve seen black (caterpillar) in my Grandma and Grandpa’s house before.
Li: Why no eyes?
K: Because it’s black, I can’t draw the eyes anymore.
Group 3 – ANIMALS THAT HATCH FROM EGGS (Ch, K, S M, and Ke)
Ch: Crocodile, peacock, and chicken’s eggs.
K: I made snake’s eggs.
K: What do you think is this? (pointing to his drawings)
M: It’s dinosaur’s eggs!
S: This one is frog’s eggs.
M I know the baby frog in Japanese. It’s otamajakushi.
K: It’s called tadpole.
Questions:
A: Why this is look like a hole?
Ch: The black one is connected to the blue one.
Ak: I did not see blue chicken’s wings before.
Recently, we have been curious as to how life cycles of animals differ (or perhaps the same as everybody else) from each other. In our 3 small groups, we had the chance to choose which animal’s life cycle to focus on. We wanted to investigate several animals’ life cycles that it took us some time to decide as a group. Finally, we came up with our choice of one animal. First, each group worked together to discuss the stages of the animal’s life cycle. Then, we tried to draw pictures and wrote their description in words. Today, we are incredibly happy to share our group effort with the rest of the class.
GROUP 1 – The Life Cycle of Rabbit
First, it is an egg. It cracked and became a baby. Then, it becomes a sister and then a Mommy. After being a Mommy, it cracked again. Then, it goes again from the egg because it’s a life cycle.
GROUP 2 - The Life Cycle of Orca
It’s an egg before it becomes a baby orca. Then it becomes a Mommy or a Daddy orca.
GROUP 3 - The Life Cycle of Flamingo
First, the flamingo is an egg. Then it becomes a baby flamingo. After that, it becomes a sister flamingo. Then, it gets bigger to become a young flamingo then becomes a flat flamingo. Then it becomes a Mommy flamingo with a baby in her tummy then goes around from the egg again.
We were so impressed with how each group created their animal life cycles. We are so interested with the animals that were discussed. Guess what? We are going to dig deeper into these life cycles by checking the facts from books, magazines, and iPad. Our learning journey has been so wonderful with each discovery that we unlock. Tomorrow is another milestone that we are so excited about. See you all!
Love,
Flowers
