The Greatest Treasure
Happy Friday everybody! We had another wonderful day full of learning and playing! We started our morning as usual and headed to the park early. When we got back to school we had our lunch and started our circle time. Nimo began by reading one of our books from World Book Day. Today was U’s book The Greatest Treasure by Arcadio Lobato.
Nimo: What is a “treasure”?
M: It’s like a pirate’s treasure. Inside are coins and diamonds.
A: A treasure is lots of gold and shiny money. We have to get a map where X marks the spot and that’s where we need to go.
A: Treasures are very shiny.
C: Treasures are small, but there are lots of things.
Nimo: What is your treasure?
M: Food, diamonds, coins, and scary stuff.
V: Chocolate coins.
K: Pink, and my cellphone, it’s a real one!
A: My cards from mom and dad, and the present that A got for me on my birthday.
U: Diamonds.
L: A pink Rainbow diamond and chocolate, and money.
A: Swords, money that is golden and shiny, chico bon bon, actually everything is my treasure!
K: I don’t have yet.
The book was about a group of witches looking for the greatest treasure so they could be the next Queen of the Witches. Tiberia the witch and her raven friend Emilio flew off on a treasure hunt. They meet a whale on the way, but the whale was afraid that Tiberia and Emilio were going to catch him so the whale swam away. When the whale learned that Tiberia wanted to be the whale’s friend and hear stories about the deep ocean the whale goes to the witch to be friends. Tiberia casts a spell that makes the whale fly, and the three go back to the queen. The queen chooses Tiberia as the Queen because she really found the greatest treasure which is a friend, which money can’t buy unlike jewels and gold that the other witches brought.
K: I like my friends!
L: I love my friends!
Thank you U for sharing your lovely book with us!
Our question of they day is a continuation of our homework from yesterday, which was about honey. The board said, “Do you like honey?”.
C: Honey tastes sweet.
L: One time my grandma eat honey and she say it tastes like a lollipop.
A: A little bit sweet and very spicy.
U: It’s yummy… No wait, It’s reallllllly yummy!
K: Tastes like chocolate.
K: So yummy!
Nimo: Where does honey come from?
U: Bees.
K: Beehive.
K: Bee house.
K: Flowers
A: Honey
V: The bee drinks from the flower and go home to the beehive and makes the honey.
M: From a garden.
A: I already know life cycle of the plant. A bee goes to flower to drink and the seeds stick on the feet and hands. Bee goes to boy flower and girl flower and the seeds stick together. A monkey or a bird comes to eat the fruits and then poos the seeds out somewhere and then it grows into another flower.
K: I know the bee comes to the flower, then take it to the beehive and bees make honey. People put the honey in a box and people buy it at the supermarket.
Great job friends! Seems like everyone did their homework! Our teachers told us that what A said is the same as they remember their teachers telling them. There was just one small change that the teachers needed to make. The seeds are not the stuff that sticks on the hands and feet of the bees it’s actually called “pollen”.
K: I know! Your eyes going to be really itchy and you keep scratching. I don’t like it.
Nimo: Next time you eat a fruit look out for the seeds inside.
C: We can bring them and show them to our friends!
We played our Bananananana game again today and then played freeze dance.
Have a lovely Golden Week! We will see you all again on Thursday!
