Of Hanami Picnics and Friends
The teachers told us something exciting during circle time– tomorrow, we are going to have our spring…..
“BREAK!” everyone exclaimed, which the teachers laugh. We just had our spring break!
“Spring picnic!” Pauline told us. “We’re going to have our spring picnic tomorrow! She announced excitedly.
“Mommy, daddy, A, and A will go Hanami picnic,” A said.
Unfortunately, due to the big, bad germs named coronavirus still being around, we can’t bring any food for tomorrow– only drinks.
“Mommy Hanami bring food,” A explained that when his family has the Hanami, his mommy will prepare the food.
Our teachers explained to us what we were going to do tomorrow. When we arrive in the morning, we were going to do our jobs, wash our hands, then eat snacks. After that, we were going to get ready for park. Then, we’ll head to Step Park in the green area, where we’ll have our spring picnic. We will meet our mommies or daddies there, and we can make a big circle so we can start to sing our good morning song. Then, we’ll play the shippo tori game– children first, and then mommies and daddies! Yay! After that, there will be two stations: the bubble station (Remember the beautiful bubbles we made with Sayaka yesterday?) and the parachute station.
“What’s the parachute game?” S asked. Pauline explained that we will be holding a big parachute with a ball in the middle, which we will be bouncing up and down. We shouldn’t let the ball fall to the ground!
“We’ll make more bubbles!” Z said excitedly.
The teachers said it would be nice if we can get to try both stations– and after that, we sing our goodbye song, and then we say goodbye to mommy and daddy– without crying. After the picnic, mommies and daddies have to go back home or go back to the office. Our teachers said that we don’t have to worry, because our mommies and daddies will pick us up later, anyway.
“My mommy doesn’t have to go back because she works in Ohana,” N said.
“I don’t cry like that when I miss my Mama and Papa; I just sit on the step to wait for them,” Z said.
“You sleep and wake up and mommy will come,” A reassured everyone.
“I only sometimes cry when I get ouchie,” Z said.
“Mommy sleeping and Azu sleeping…” A suddenly remembered about his mommy.
After that, Pauline read a book, “My Friends” by Taro Gomi, just like she promised on Monday. It was about a girl who learned a lot from her friends: she learned to walk from her friend the cat, she learned to march from her friend the rooster, she learned to read from her friend the books (It’s interesting how things can be our friends, too), and she learned to study from her friend the teachers.
“How about you? Who are your friends? What do you learn from them?” Pauline asked.
“Whales are my friends, because they’re so sweet. You know, from Octonauts,” N said. “Lobsters are my friends, because they’re so sweet, too,” he added.
“Hmm.. Like this one,” A said, pointing to the big ship on our map. “My boat. My Lego boat.”
“I love dinosaurs because… I love them,” Z said. “I have 1, 2, 3, 4… four dinosaurs,” she said.
“My friend is a ball because we have a basket one, a pink one, a rugby one, and we play them o the street. I play with mommy and daddy and M,” S said. “My shoes are my friends because I run with them,” he added.
“Books. Lego books,” A said.
“My sister is also my friend because I always play with her,” S said.
“Mommy because I'm happy,” A said.
“Mommy. Mommy play,” U said.
After that, we headed to the park and we practiced playing shippo tori. It was so much fun! The teachers helped put our tails on, and we chased each other round and round the green area, trying to take as many tails as we can! We also practiced our counting as we helped our friends count to decide who the winner is.
That’s all for today– we’re excited for tomorrow! Oh, and we also get to show everyone the picnic mat we made with Kai– we cut out pictures of all our favorite food and stuck it on the mat. How about you? How was your day?
Love,
All the happy bunnies in Petals Class
