Buds' Spring Picnic

Our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came and made our Spring event this morning possible. We are grateful for all of you who continue to show support in our efforts to strengthen parent-school partnership to provide our children rich and meaningful learning experiences.

Before we go dive in to our main event for the day, we’ll walk you through what we did in preparation for our carnival theme during Free Play period.

 Connecting Disks and People Figures

Playing with connecting disks and people open endless opportunities for ideas to flourish and relationships to strengthen. Some of us just came back today after Spring Break so having an open ended activity allowed us to reconnect with the class on our own “terms”.

Aside from “connecting” these objects together, some of us tried spinning like a top. Erika tried to spin as much “tops” as she could at the same time and we had fun trying to “catch” it. The warmer weather is starting to make its way which means summer is coming soon! And when it’s summer, sunglasses are an essential! So some of us thought of the idea of making sunglasses too!

Adding Textures to Previous Group Artworks

Inspired by the book “Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg, we continue our “mission” to create something beautiful by putting together a lot of scrap materials that we could  use. This activity is in congruence with our ongoing efforts to practice sustainability.

Two types of artwork were available for us to work on. One was made on a black paper which made the neon colored paint and glitters sparkled while the other was covered in red & yellow paint with various lengths of washi tape on it. We pasted cellophane and tissue paper on both these artworks  to add texture.

Morning Warm Up and Exercise / Story Telling

To prepare us for our special even this morning, we had short but intense morning warm up and exercise. Doing a group exercise is always a fun way to get our bodies moving and manage our energy before settling down for transitions. Our favorite move is “squat and jump”… it’s fun to see who can jump the highest .

We also listened to a story about the growing stages of a butterfly as we can see these beautiful creatures fluttering around blooming flowers.

Spring Picnic

And here we thought that it’d be another “normal” fun day for us in the park until “Whoa! Those people in the Green Area look familiar… it’s our mama and papa!”

It was a fun experience being out in the sun, singing and dancing together with our dear parents. Regardless of the number of online meetings we may be having nowadays, nothing can compare to the warmth of actually gathering together. Thank you to everyone for participating and taking into account safety protocols during our event this morning.

Our Buds Tree has definitely felt the love by everyone as we collectively made cherry blossoms and tied it around its branches. Our blooming Buds Tree now stands proudly in our room that holds a beautiful memory for us all.

We hope that the event would add up to your families precious memories with Ohana International School.

Thank you and enjoy the wonderful weather!

                             Love, Buds Class Children
