The power of the Sun!
We were blessed with another wonderful Spring morning! It was a little bit colder than yesterday, but still a beautiful day! K came in the classroom and told his teachers, “I don’t have phonics class today.” The teachers were startled and asked, “Really?! We didn’t hear anything from your parents,” K chuckled and said, “I got you, because today is Joking Day!”. The teachers had to stop to think for a moment and they finally realized that today was April 1st, otherwise known as, April Fools Day. Since then, our friends and teachers have been tricking each other with playful pranks!
Aside from finding out a way to trick our friends for Joking Day, we all made our special spring medal for tomorrow and some of us continued to work on our spring art! We added more flowers, a sun, a mole, earthworms, and grasshoppers! Our artwork is really starting to look like a real garden! Once everyone was done with their crafts, we packed everything away and had our snacks. After we ate our snacks, we got ready for the park and had a short circle time before we marched onward to the park. Our teachers set up the projector and asked us, “Who is coming to visit today?!”, usually one of our friends would say, “It’s my mom/dad!”, but for some reason no one said anything today. We looked at each other and everyone looked a bit confused. “April Fools’ Day!”, our teachers tricked us! We weren’t doing zoom today, but we were going to do something with the computer and the projector. We have been so busy with all of our projects before Spring Break we didn’t have to time to take a look at the special powerpoint Kenta-san made for us answering our questions we sent him. Kenta-san answered all of our 18 questions in both Japanese and in English! Thank you very much Kenta-san for answering our questions! Because Petals were having their Spring Picnic at Step Park, we decided to head over to a different park. We didn’t have too much time so we headed to the second closest park, Amishiro Park! It’s been a very long time since we been there and many of our friends were excited to be back. A said, “I remember we played at this park! But it’s been forever since we came here again”, unfortunately we couldn’t play with the slides, but we still had fun running around playing tag with our friends.
We had our lunch after we got back to school and when everyone finished eating, we had a short circle time. K volunteered to read our question of the day and with a little help from his friend A, K did a great job reading, “Do plants need the sun?”. All of our friends said yes, and here’s what they said:
K: If there’s no water, they don’t grow up
L: The sun can grow the flowers
A: If it’s only the flower, it won’t grow. The flowers need the sun so they can grow
T: The sun makes the trees and leaves grow bigger
K: The sun gives power
A: The sun gives the plants muscles so they can grow larger
C: If all the plants die, then the people will be sad
Nimo: Can we use the light in the classroom to keep our plants healthy?
L: No, because the light can only make you see things, the sun is not inside.
K: The lights are not as strong as the sun
We all started to wonder why the sun gives the plants power and how, but instead of answering our questions with facts, our teachers asked us to look around at some plants and wonder more, we will have another circle time to talk about anything we might find today! Tomorrow is our annual Spring Picnic!
Have a lovely evening and see you all tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
