What do we use our hands for?
Early morning, we already had an amazing feeling that it was going to be a beautiful day. As we entered the classroom, we saw some table activities that caught our attention. Of course, we diligently did our morning jobs such as taking our outdoor shoes off and putting on the indoor ones. Next, we took our jackets off and put them on the trolley where they belong during the day, we then put out our folders and placed them on our teachers’ desk to keep it a bit organized. We carried our bags and hung them by the hook. Moko-sensei and Goh-san were also waiting for us to wash our hands so that we could get ready to play with our friends and teachers.
Table Activities
Light table and translucent Lego blocks
The light table was shining brightly and there were some Lego blocks that we stacked together just like making a tower. We also incorporated a little bit of texture such as putting the pipe cleaners on top. We loved the squiggly figures and somehow it made us laugh seeing these things on the light table.
Progress art of washi paper, pipe cleaners and cut-out drawings
Recently, we have been working with Erika and some of the teachers on this wonderful artwork. The patterns and designs that we have created were stunning. We enjoyed playing with the glue and just dipped our hands in the blob of glue and felt a sticky texture.
Matching tiles of pictures, shapes and colors
Buds class always chose to get some matching figures in class. Hence, the matching tiles were always popular as we were so immersed in making connections and categorizing various shapes, pictures and colors. Some of us spent a good amount of time just to figure out which tile goes to where.
Floor Activities
Books to read
There were a lot of interesting books that we have on our library shelf. But the most favorite one we have for now was the Twinkle toes that Erika read yesterday. The movement, texture of the pages and drawings really mesmerized us in such a way that we couldn’t stop looking and enjoying the whole book.
Musical instruments
There were also some musical instruments such as the drums, bells, egg shakers and some boomwhackers too. It was such a concierto in the classroom. We also enjoyed playing these instruments with our teachers most especially with our loving Moko-sensei.
Circle time
We started our day with the song called a Happy song. It was quite a new song for all of us but the actions and dance moves made a great difference in learning the song so easily.
Our teachers also requested to show them our smiles. Then they have a good question and asked us “What makes us smile?” Then our friends replied, “Calling mama and papa” can make us smile, “Singing Baby Shark” can make us smile, and “Clapping hands” can make us smile. There are so many ways that can make us laugh or smile. Some of our friends are starting to say, “Oh! It’s funny!” It was pretty hilarious!
Story time with Puppets
The Lion’s hitting hands
John asked us to sit down and listened to our puppet show. The story was all about a lion who always wanted to use his hands for hitting. He took away the egg shaker that panda bear was playing with, then he hit the dog, bunny and piglet. However, when the lion was about to hit our friend Chop-chop. Chop-chop was so brave and he said that it’s not okay to hit someone. The lion just laughed and walked away. When he got bored, he tried to convince his animal friends to play with him but nobody wanted to do so. They were all scared and ran away because they didn’t want to get hurt with his hitting hands again. In the end, the lion got really sad and learned his lesson. He said that he wouldn’t do it again and he’ll be using his gentle hands while playing with his friends.
We also had a turn on expressing our gentle hands. Our big Wang wang (name of our toy dog) went around the circle and we patted his head with our “gentle” hands. Everybody was so cooperative and able to do it easily.
Music Session with Bells
John asked to stand up and we also played some music and rhythm patterns with our bells that we got from our music box. After that, we went to library and we read a book called, “Hands are not for hitting”. It was a nice book because there are so many beautiful ways on how to express ourselves with our hands.
Park time
The weather was warm and lovely. We enjoyed playing with the new tennis balls brought by Moko-sensei today. We love them because they are all so bouncy!
We sang a happy birthday song to C’s papa because we learned this morning that she ate a birthday cake for breakfast.
Thank you so much Ohana for another fabulous day!
See you all again tomorrow!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds Class
