Valentine's Day

Happy Friday everyone! The sun was shining brightly and skies were blue as can be, but the wind was quite chilly. For our morning crafts we worked on our messages for our Valentines Card. We sat with Liezel and the alphabet chart and wrote what we wanted to tell our beloved moms and dads using inventive spelling. After we wrote our messages, we moved to a table with mirrors and drew our self-portraits. Our teachers want to put up a portrait display for our Art Museum we are working on. There we will have our two portraits that our friends drew of us and we are going to add our self portrait too. Our friends really wanted to do our movie night again so they lined up the chairs to set up our theater. Our teachers were carefully writing down what they saw and it seems like they are planning something, hmm… what could they be plotting…

As usual we went to the park and then had our snacks when we got back. We gathered into a circle and sang a few songs. One of the songs we sang was, “Love is something if you give it away”. We sang the song both in English and Japanese. Nimo then asked us what special day is coming up next week. L raised her hand and answered, “Valentines day!” Nimo asked if anyone knew the first letter for “Valentines” Day. We sounded the word out together, then one of our friends were handed a white board marker and asked to write the letter on the whiteboard. After we wrote a letter we would call on the next person to come up and write the next letter. We all worked together and wrote the words, “Valentine’s Day, Chocolate, and Heart” on the wall.

Nimo: What do we do on Valentines day?

Ki: Mommy say, on Valentine’s Day girls give chocolate to boys. Like Kano give to Akira

Ka: We can make chocolate

Nimo: Why do you think?

Ke: Because it is nice

Me: Because its Valentines and friends will be sad if they don’t get chocolate

Ka: Love

C: Give them our hearts, our hearts are full of love.

Nimo: Can boys give chocolate to boys and girls give chocolate to girls?

Flowers: Yes!

Shelley just so happened to be in class and asked us who she was married to.

M: Moko-sensei!

We talked about how we can love anyone and love has lots of shapes.

K: But you don’t want to marry a stranger

We read another a book from the same series as “Turnover Tuesday”. It was called “Foggy Friday” by Phyllis Root and Helen Craig. Before we started we practiced our “F” sounds and then thought of words that start with “F”. Our friends did a wonderful job coming up with lots of words.

K: Fist, Fin, Fire, Feel

A: Fan, First, Finger

K: Family, Flower, Fame

M: Food, Fish, Friday

C: Ferrari, Fig, Fantastic

L: Fast, Fox

A: Frog, Feet

A: Foggy, Football

U: Fat

K: Forest

Y: Farm

Great job everyone! Nimo read us the silly book and we had a good laugh! We went and had our lunch then Vieda opened up our Post Box and delivered some of the mail we put in. Vieda asked us who hasn’t got a letter yet and we noticed a lot of our friends haven’t. Maybe we can send them a letter next time!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and see you all again on Monday!

Love,

Flowers
