Stars in Buds
Hope everyone had a great time over the weekend. It was a cold day today and good thing that everyone had their jackets on. Our friends became so interested in doing more table activities today and it was fascinating that we could spend a long time being busy with the materials presented to us.
Table Activities
Today, there were some cups and connecting people blocks. We sat down and tried to put them together. However, the cups and little pans from the kitchen area became tools that we used to gather materials and transport them from one place to another. The other table was filled with snow flour and some colorful oats in the tray. We also made a star out of strips of the painting of the moon. We pasted the strips on top of each other the next thing we knew, we had a star. The third table was another time for play dough. We couldn’t get enough of this as we always wanted to explore and understand its properties. What an excellent way to get creative, and of course, we got so proud of how we could create and make figures with the cookie cutters.
Floor Activities
We got some cushions on the floor and you know what the first thing we did today is? We lined them up and made an obstacle course. We slowly got on it with our little steps, we moved forward, and our legs felt a bit shaky because of the softness of each circle cushion. This was a good practice of our balance and developing our core. It was great to see how we tried to understand the importance of being aware of our space and how our bodies could move around it. Setting it by ourselves was also an indication that we had initiated our play. We just loved establishing our interest in what we could do in the classroom.
Circle time
We gathered around and began standing while our teachers sang the song. We also did a few actions while moving in circles around the classroom. We jumped, ran, moved, and turned around. Then, we all sat down and sang, “If you’re happy and you know it”. Then, John showed us what Tamara had brought from her home. We saw some wires and plugs, and he put them on. It was a magical moment when the lights turned on; we were in awe of how they twinkled.
We spread the lights, and we couldn’t stop ourselves by touching and making sure how it felt. The whole feeling of it was like the night sky. John asked us, “When do you see the stars?” S replied “Nighttime”. Yes, we could see the stars at night and what else?” S said again, “Moon.” Theo seconded, and he stood up to touch the little lights. Of course, this activity wouldn’t be complete if we wouldn’t sing, “Twinkle, twinkle little star”.
After that, we also stuck the stars that we made in the morning on the Christmas trees we have in the classroom. First, Th went to hang the star on the Christmas tree from the board, followed by R, and lastly, K held the big star and put it on the big Christmas tree that we made last week. Well done, Buds friends!
Thank you so much, and have a great day!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds class
