I Am Peace
Free Play
*We had one of our favorite toys out today! We played with the wooden train set and made long long connected train tracks.
*We made origami Halloween spider webs. Then decorated them with pom poms.
*The birthday celebrants painted a special birthday canvas for themselves. There was a cupcake in the middle of the canvas. We all watched curiously as they painted and it made us want to paint too!
Circle Time
*After singing how we felt in a group, Kai asked us if something happened last night. Most of us didn’t notice anything but M, C and C said they woke up because there was an Earthquake! Yes it was a big earthquake and a loud sound that might have woken us up.
*Earlier in the week R gave Petals Class a book for her birthday. Today we read that book in class. The book is called, I Am Peace. It’s about being mindful and what we can do to be mindful. When we’re thinking too much of the future or past we can practice being mindful by being in the moment. Some things we can do are taking deep breaths, being present, clearing our thoughts, sharing kindness with others, connecting to nature and using my senses so we can feel peace.
*We tried one one of the suggestions and used our listening sense in the classroom. We closed our eyes and listened to the sounds that we heard and talked about what we heard afterwards. This is what we heard with the doors and windows opened:
Arya- Bicycle
Kenzo- Nothing
Hiori- Nothing. (Later she thought). Boy and girl being loud.
Reiri- Kai
Rimi- I don't know. Kyosei's friend.
Collier- Bicycle
Anaya- Boy and girl
We’re sure everyone heard something but may not feel comfortable sharing in the group.
*Before getting ready for snack we looked to see if we could recognize our names. Our names were hidden behind Kai’s hands and it slowly revealed itself. We’re getting pretty good at recognizing the first letter of our friends' names. We can guess who it is just by the first letter!
Park Time
*We went to the temple today and played around with the rubber rings. In the book that we read today, it mentioned that we could hug a tree and that’s what some of us did when we first arrived. There were a bunch of pigeons at the park that we were curious about. We wanted to “shoo” them away but the teachers thought that maybe the temple was their home. How would we like it if someone shooed us away from our home? So we started to just look at the pigeons instead. There are also a lot of leaves on the ground for us to make bouquets. We also looked around the tree to see if there were any creepy crawlies. Unfortunately we didn’t find any today. We love spending time at the temple!
It was another wonderful week in Petals Class. We hope you had a fantastic week as well! Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
