Like a Picnic Day?

October 15: Like a Picnic Day

It was such a beautiful day – we didn’t want to miss being outside! Although it was a short day, we packed our snacks and bottles in a big bag and headed to Step park. We came back just in time for the early pick up :) You know, we had a new friend in Buds today and he was very hungry. If you want to know more about it, here is what happened…

Coffee Filter Tie Dye Monsters

Last Friday, we made magic on a coffee filter! How? We put some paint on a coffee filter using different tools and the colors mixed stunningly! Only today, we noticed that we were actually making our own monster as we added a mouth, some horns and eyes on it. When Liezel asked, “How many eyes should a monster have?” R answered, “One,” C answered, “two” and T was very particular about having three eyes with horns all around the face. Then T took a horn that looked liked a crown saying, “This monster is a king” and placed it on the very top! K was not so keen on looking at the monster for a long time and once he stuck one eye, he was off and didn’t want to come back to the table anymore! Hahaha Surely we all have our thoughts and feelings about monsters and other scary things that come around Halloween.

Tissue Box and Colorful Tissue Paper

On the other table, we tore pieces of tissue paper in different colors. Then on a tissue box we stuck the colorful pieces all over! H and J did such a great job. H showed her work so proudly to her friends and teachers :) Later the tissue box turned into something…

Yarn and Spiders

What is with all the yarn on the floor!? Eeek! And spiders everywhere! There was a spider on Erika’s shoulder and one on K’s T-shirt! We dragged the yarn around the floor and wrapped our friends’ legs with it. After the Fall break, we will have our Halloween party. Slowly and slowly our classroom is turning creepy and spooky.

Picnic at the Park

Finally, the weather is jut right – sunny and cool ー and perfect for picnic. After singing our good morning song, we changed our shoes and put on our smocks for the park. We loved being outside and eating our yummy snacks with our friends and teachers. On the way back from the park, we were singing Old McDonald Had A Farm. Each time, the teachers sang “And on that farm, he had a…” we came up with our own ideas like “cow,” “duck,” “monkey” and “poop!” We all laughed as we sang “…with a poop poop here and poop poop there…”. After all, farms are filled with poops from all the animals!

Circle Time

We heard the familiar tune from The Addams Family and we stomped on our feet as we walked around the circle pretending to be ghosts and monsters. When the music stopped, we stopped just like freeze dance!

The tissue box was out again looking very colorful. When we were asked what it looks like, C answered, “kangaroo” and R answered, “house.” Now what if we add some teeth and eyes? Tadaaa! It turned into a tissue box monster! The monster looked very hungry. Hmm will he eat…a car? How about a bumble bee? We tried to feed him with all sorts of things. He gobbled up everything, well almost everything. Somehow when we tried to feed him a wooden block, he coughed it out! After stuffing his empty tummy with buses, ladybugs, eggplants, and snakes…guess what!? He fell asleep snoring away. So we decided to quietly listen to a story: The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. It was a sequel story to The Gruffalo and it was about the Gruffalo’s child who went back into the woods to look for the Big Bad Mouse. Every time, the child found a trail, we anticipated to see what monster was awaiting on the next page…and just then, you came to pick us up! Already!?

Thank you for another terrific day and see you after the break!

Love from all the children in Buds xoxo
