The Spider Web School
🎶The itsy bitsy spiders were crawling all around us 🎶— The spooky fun that the season of Halloween bring is slowly ‘creeping’ on us. We hope you enjoy reading all about how we have started our preparation for Halloween.
🕸 Spider Web of Tapes 🕸
The colorful, cute spiders that we made yesterday are crawling all around and it needs a place to stay. Sort of like how we need to gather together in a certain area for Circle Time and Meal Times, our spider friends need to know where to gather too!
With a large white sheet of paper laid on the floor, we used rolls of tape to make our spider friends it’s very own web. We got to be web architects and engineers for a day! Working with tapes is tricky! Here are several ways on how working with rolls of tape helped us develop certain skills:
1. Eye - Hand Coordination: Being aware of how long we’ve already pulled the tape off from its base is a skill that requires multitasking of our senses. We need to use our eyes to see how long our hands have pulled the tape so as to avoid it getting crumpled together.
2. Problem Solving: It sometimes can’t be helped that the strips of washi tape we use gets teared off when we pull it from its base. Whenever this happens, a few of us would say, “Oh no! It’s broken!” So how can we fix the “broken” tapes? We layered on it a new strip of tape to continue making long lines for our web.
With the center of the paper being that start point, we all had a blast pulling tape outwards in different directions. We can’t wait for our colorful spider friends to see its new place.
👻 Cutting Ghostly, Swirly Tails 👻
BOO! With hand drawn swirls, we practiced our cutting skills together with Liezel. Similar to the Spider Web of Tapes activity, we had to use our eye hand coordination to as we constantly had to move the paper around while cutting the swirl. While some of us preferred to focus on cutting, a few of us concentrated on drawing spooky eyes and mouth.
Tracing Circles
Yesterday’s Halloween group artwork had an upgrade by us tracing circles on it. We love working with abstract concepts and later narrowing it down to something concrete and relatable to us. Stay tuned on how these circles will transform into something related to Halloween.
Body + Box Play
At times, we don’t need to toys to help us play… our bodies and empty old boxes are more than enough to keep us occupied. We are grateful for John to allow us to “use” his body like a playground. Can you guess who amongst us tried his best to fit and hide himself inside a box…? 🙈
The Addams Family Theme Song (Baby Shark Edition)
Erika played to us a new tune which held our attention as it was sort of spooky yet had a fun flair to it. To help us recognize audio patterns, we were asked to snap our fingers on certain parts of the tune to which all of us immediately got to recognize! Together with our teachers, we changed the original lyrics of “The Addams Family” Theme Song to “The Baby Shark Family”. We are still in the process of lyric writing so stay tuned for the final outcome !
The Spider Web School
To get us into the “spidy” mood, we were read the book “A Cheese and Tomato Spider” by Nick Sharratt. We have read this book several times but each time we do, we sing the text to different tunes to have unique learning experiences. After we fed the spider with scoops of strawberry ice cream and slices of pizza, we were shown the final outcome of the spider web we worked on during Free Play period.
We each received a colorful spider and made it crawl on the web… thus, our spider friends have now a place to gather when in school!
We hope all of you are having a lovely Tuesday.
Love,
Buds Class Children
