Practicing with our gentle hands

Good morning friends! It was another beautiful day again at Ohana. Our teachers were very kind to welcome us with a warm smile. The weather was also getting a lot better and the temperature was cooler than before. We obviously were in high spirits upon entering our classroom and thrilled for the activities prepared for us.

Pattern Tracing

This table was occupied by different cloth texture. We had the ragged, grassy and soft metallic colored pieces of cloth. The activity was to put the white paper on top of each texture and then we applied oil pastel or crayons on them. While shading it, we noticed that little and interesting patterns were coming out of the paper. It was like magic for us to see it before our eyes!

Light table with kinetic sand

We were also very interested in exploring our hands with the kinetic sand and the light table. The effect was just amazing and we could hide our excitement while we used our hands, paintbrushes and popsicle sticks. The feeling of the sand was just mesmerizing and we couldn’t help but put some sand on  the floor as part of our exploration!

Sensory box art project

As what we have finished yesterday, the sensory boxes are slowly looking more interesting. And today, we added up some sponges, wool and popsicle sticks around. The goal for this project is to create a sensory material that our friends can explore during  free play time. It’s going to be a nice play experience for all of us too.

Mega Lego Blocks

We love to stack and build our own constructions. Today, we did lots of car constructions and chose the Lego parts with wheels.

Bed of flowers

It was also extra special to experience some flowers/petals thrown up in the air as we tried to catch them with our hands. Not to worry, these are not real ones. They were made of cloth that it was being given to us an Ohana parent before. We put these flowers to good use because the sensory experience was quite amazing. We even laid down and waited for the soft flowers to fall on our faces. In the end, we helped our teachers to clean them all up as we always do.

Finger play

We sang our favorite song, “One little finger” and showed our body parts like chin, head, tummy, knees and toes. We also tried tickling ourselves, then our friends and then our teachers. We were being silly but it was so fun!

Life book reading with Erika

Our life books are very important elements in our classroom. We love looking at our photos and showing to our friends who are in the album. It is a good way to associate something they have at home to our school. The children love making connections and understanding themselves together with the people around them.

Pouring water activity with our gentle hands

For our  last lesson today, our teachers helped us how to pour water from one cup to another. It was like a practical demonstration on how to transfer water using our hands. We were reminded to use both our hands or use the cups carefully so as not to spill anything. Everybody did well and was so proud of what they have achieved today.

First time walking outside Ohana

One of the highlights of the day was walking outside Ohana  with a rope. We definitely enjoyed going out and waited for the vehicles to pass by. Our teachers told us to always stay in the white line to be safe at all times. We have  successfully done this task with so much ease. We are glad to know that we might be going to the park next week.

Tunnel and Slide obstacle Course

When we got back inside our classroom, there was a obstacle course that we did with our friends. We really had a great time exploring the space around us and moving our bodies is  also a good  way to learn too.

Book of the day—Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw

Rhyming words are very engaging to the children. This book also helped us know the different emotions that we feel inside. Great way to start learning about our self-expression with this book!

Thank you so much Ohana for another great day! See you all again tomorrow!

Lots of love,

All the children from Buds Class
