The Hula Dance

It was a fun day again in Buds class and we’re so excited to see what’s in store for us. We definitely enjoyed our time together yesterday and all of our friends were quite energetic again to play with us today. Here are some activities that we did especially today.

Continuation of a great art piece

As we tried to continue with our art piece, our friends became very engaged in making several patterns on our Tiki Tiki man. It was something special for all of us because we had lots of colorful scrap paper that we had on our table. First, we were thinking on how to do it with our friends because  we just saw a tray of glue, popsicle sticks and cut-out shapes from scrap paper. We were a  bit hesitant to do it but when our teachers showed us how to make it more appealing in terms of decorating it, we started to become more confident to proceed with our creative juices.

We put the colorful patterns of blue, green and pink. The focal point of the artwork was the face of the man and we just sprinkled and collectively arranged the whole pieces of paper on the big cardboard box. We were so patient gluing and sticking everything together until we have created a shiny (with cellophane) and extravagant art piece.

The Light table experiment

It was actually nice to see our friends very engaged with our light table. Today, we got very curious on how the cellophane sheets will work together and how their colors could change by putting one over the other. It was interesting to see our facial expressions because of the fact that we haven’t witnessed anything like this before. These types of learning experiences are what we treasure at Ohana. Our minds are always stimulated and we get enough meaningful learning opportunities to understand the world around us.

The Hula dance

We love learning new things about the world and today, we went to Hawaii as part of our theme topic for this week. We all know that in Hawaii, you can find lots of beaches. So, what we did in the morning was to have a video projection on the wall and there we saw the video of a beautiful beach. So, we pretended to lie down and relax as much as we could with our friends and teachers. We also learned how to dance Hula. It is a traditional Hawaiian dance and as part of the tradition Hula symbolizes many things and not just swaying and shaking of hands and hips. It can be a representation of nature, love, fondness and yearning. It is true that this dance is such an art form and an expression of feelings rather than just mere entertainment. We also learned how to swim and did some yoga poses. Of course, we all used our imagination and did these things with our teachers. We love the freestyle swim and the frog swim. It was certainly a nice routine that we could do in the classroom.

Drawing our feelings about Hawaii

After the circle time, we sat down and drew our thoughts about Hawaii. S is actually from Hawaii so what she drew was her family. Some of us drew flowers and oceans. Of course, with simple scribbles and lines, they represented lots of meanings to us and we just enjoyed oozing our creativity in the classroom.

Thank you so much Ohana for another beautiful day and see you all again tomorrow.

Lots of love,

Buds Class children
