Male or Female?

Today was a puzzling day. We had different activities in the morning but almost everyone wanted to do puzzles. We’re getting so good at puzzles we can do up to 100 pieces without any help from friends or teachers!

The other activities included drawing on the transparency sheets, painting and birthday cards. On the transparency sheet we drew something and put it up on the table shield to see what our friends looked like with our designs. We also finished painting our professions and we still have so many birthday cards!

Right before circle time we played a quick game of I Spy. Kai explained that we have to give clues or hints and we have to guess what it is. He started with.

Kai– I spy something with 4 legs and it’s red.

J– A chair!

Kai– That’s right! Next one is. I spy something that points at you and you see everyday. It’s a machine.

W– Pointer finger.

J– Something that goes on my head outside (thermometer).

Kai– The teachers use it and then takes what’s inside to the computer, adds it in the journal then you can see it.

S– a computer.

An– When you’re doing zoom there’s a little button that shows you on the camera.

Kai– After the teacher is done with it we can show you on it. I love this thing.

J– I think that when we’re over drawing and then we take photo with camera.

Kai– Yes that’s right a camera! Ok your turn J.

J– I spy something blue that can do something kind of like machine.

W– That blue thing. (pencil sharpener).

W– I spy something you can,.. Almost like a pencil but it’s not.

S– A marker

L– Flag

W– You can do that thing on the paper. It can be the same color in the pencil. It is wet.

An– Paint?

W- That’s Right!

We started by doing a little exercise. We jumped, turned and jumped, stopped our feet and did some deep breathing to start the circle. We been talking about professions this week. We want to be so many things. From pilot, to superhero, to zookeeper. Yesterday, Vieda told us that wombat poop is a cube but how do we know? There is a profession that studies animals called zoologist. Today we were going to be zoologist. We looked at a photo of two ducks and we had to decide which one is male and which one is female. R and J thought the female duck is the brown one because it looked like it has an egg in the torso. Kai explain that most birds the male are more colorful to attract the females.

Then we looked at a picture of ostriches and again we had to guess which one is male and female. S’s perception is that the brown ostrich is the female because the tummy is big. When we looked at bird of paradise L thought the female was the smaller one because there is an egg inside. How about something that looks similar like emperor penguin? E and Y thinks the left one is the female because the tummy is bigger. This is when zoology is important because we can’t tell just by looking they have to observe the behavior to tell which one is male and female. We looked at some more animals but the consciences is that the bigger one is female because of the tummy. The deer was easy to distinguish because the male has antlers.

Later we read a book about similarities and differences. Even thought we all have skin, hair, eyes, families, need food, have homes and love to play, we are all very different. We all very excited to talk about what kind of food we like and what kind of place we live in. We didn’t realize that some people might not have homes or food.  Our experiences and background makes us who we are and we should take into consideration about other people’s background and be kind to each other.

Before our parents picked us up for lunch we played a game of balloon soccer. This time we have to stay on our spot and shake our mats to “blow” the balloon into the goal. We had a Batman/ Spiderman team and a Princess team. We felt like we didn’t need to a/c because it was so cool in the room.

The results was 4-1 in favor of team Batman/ Spiderman!! We practiced good sportsmanship and elbow bumped our friends and said, “Good job” some of use used foot bumps and bum bumps.

Thank you for reading our journal. Hope you all had a wonderful day!

Love always,
