Flight to Germany via Ohana Airlines
Would you like to know what we did today? With our backpacks and passports with us, we traveled via Ohana Airlines. Our classroom was turned into an airport where we saw different signs and tried our best to read them.
S: I think it says. “SE-KYU-RI-TI??”
Mo: I know you have to do it but I don’t know why.
Ra: Before we go, the light has to be green.
Ja: If it’s red, you cannot go.
K: If you go, the security will have a machine to your clothes.
There was another area where it says IMMIGRATION. It is a very long word and yet some of our friends were able to sound out each letter! Ja, Mo and Sa did a very good job “reading” the word immigration!
After going through a tour around our very own airport, our own passport was handed out to us and we had to go through the security, bag check and immigration as well board our plane, all on our own!
Some of us were a little nervous as our backpacks passed through the machine. Our hearts pumped as we walked through the security check as well. Some of our friends had to inform the airport officials what they had in their backpacks! Phew! We’re very glad that all of us made it at the security check.
Now at the immigration. The “officer” asked us questions, such as “What is your full name?, Where are you going? Well, we were told by Vieda that our destination was Europe at the start of the tour. But, it was different when we were asked individually! Not only that we had to answer some questions, we also had to put our fingers on top of a fingerprint reader! We got so serious about it that none of our friends in Flowers Class was laughing! We felt so relieved when our passports got stamped by the “officer” at the immigration . Then came the most exciting part! We carefully looked at our boarding passes to check our seat numbers. We know our numbers well, so we were able to manage to find our seats without the help of the cabin attendants!
Our wonderful trip to Europe has just begun!
Aboard the Ohana Airlines, we gently put our backpacks under our seats and had fastened our “seat belts”. Just like any airplane trip, announcements from the cabin attendant and pilot came on the speaker. We had our listening ears really turned on while on the plane because we did not want to miss anything! Our eyes lit up when we heard the announcements! The voices sound very familiar! Ke said, “The pilot said Good morning, Flowers Class!. Sara on the other hand said, “The captain said welcome to Ohana. The captain is speaking! Also, Yu paid attention to the time that she said, “The pilot said we are going to land in 10 minutes!!! Yes, it was 10… 10 hours from Ohana to Europe! We counted up to 10 and realized that it will be at 10 o’clock in the evening when we would reach Europe. After the announcements, the quiet passengers started whispering among themselves. Ral told W, “I think the girl who speak is Sa’s Mom., while A said that she thought the pilot is Sa’s Daddy. Hmm, how interesting to hear plane announcements by people who are familiar to us!
Since it will take us a long time to reach our destination, we had a discussion on the plane about Germany which is located in Europe. Vieda mentioned some things that Germany does to help our earth. First of all, they have a system called Pfand where people get a refund or a coupon for taking empty glass or PET bottles to the supermarket. This way, recycling them runs smoother and more effective. Second is how people use bicycles often than cars. When they do use cars, they often car pool as a way to lessen the gas emission.
Vieda: What is car pool?
Sa: It is car which has water.
Ja: Car is inside the pool.
K: Somebody came this morning with car pool.
Kei: Little bit like small car
A: Car pool is a car being pulled by a bicycle.
Shelley: I think when you swim in the car.
Ry: Maybe a big car.
Connie (who is from Germany!): People with the same destination share the car.
Vieda: Who shared the car this morning?
Mo: Rya’s car because I don’t have a car.
Ka: One time, Y came in to Kano’s car.
Ke: You know, my Daddy, Mommy, Ky and Ri go to supermarket and see R
Kei To share a car.
During our flight, we were lucky to have Connie on board that we had a question and answer time.
Mo: In Germany, do they have parks?
Connie: Yes, we have many parks and green trees.
S: What is the food in Germany?
Connie: We love bread, potato and sausage.
S: I love bread, potato and sausage, too!
Ry: Do you have cars in Germany?
Connie: We do but when we have to use cars, we share. Or we usually use our bicycles.
Before the plane landed, drinks were served. We were so happy to drink some water just before we reached Germany! These are our water bottles but we enjoyed the experience of feeling like we were on the plane!
In the afternoon, we watched a short video about Germany. After watching it, W expressed that “ I wish we can live there! Because it”s so many children. I want there to move with the children. Je seemed to understand what carpool is during the video when he said, “Carpool means people can share a car. Sometimes 4 or 5 people can share.
We had our lunch in “Germany” , so we had to fly back to Asia where Ohana is. Our boarding passes were handed out and this time, getting on the plane was a bit tricky. The chairs were not arranged in a sequential order. We looked around the “plane” to check the seat numbers. We found our seats all on our own again! Yay, we know our numbers very well!.
MUSIC CLASS WITH JOHN!
We tried something new today. John asked us to separate into 3 groups. Each of the group had a note and rhythm to follow. We worked on our singing voices with some vocalization exercises. At the end of the activity, John was the director and we sang altogether as in a choir! We sounded amazing!
Our friends who are in the Choir class helped John to teach us the song, Down by the Bay. We enjoyed the song so much!
What a fantastic day to travel to Germany and learn two things they do to help our earth.
Lots of love,
Flowers Children
