Sticks and Sounds

A lovely walk in the neighborhood again was what we did and it was amazing to see some of the areas around Motoazabu. It was actually a long walk and it was lovely to see some friends from other schools. They were playing at the park but for us, we just decided to see what’s around Ohana. Some of our friends loved to touch the walls and corners that we went to. However, we also have a rule to put our hands to ourselves especially when  it interrupts our walking. Of course, we had to think about the things that can keep us safe at all times. Good thing, we are all well-aware of these things!

Table Fun!

Early in the morning, we saw some sticks, colorful soft tissue paper and some feathers on the table. We wondered what we’re going to make. So our teachers explained to us what we’re about to do. It was actually special hanging decorations. We also used some yarns and tape to make sure that our decorations were well-secured. It took us a while to finish the art and we really appreciate using the sticks that nature is also a part of our classroom. How lovely it is to see it every single day.

The other table was also busy with play dough and sticks too. Goh san was there at all times to help us out with figures that we wanted to create with our friends and teachers.

Life books and stories

Erika, Chiaki and Goh were at the library together with all our other friends and they were very attentive and interested in looking at our lifebooks. How we love our Life books because we got to see our friends and families as we flipped the pages through.

Sticks and Sounds

We started our circle time with our morning songs and learning more about our names. We really tried our best to read the names by sight but some of our friends needed more time to do it. However, a few of us  were able to identify our own names even if we mixed them around. It was a bit challenging at first but we also get the hang of it when we had a few more tries.

Learning about textures is also what we love to do. First, we learned the word soft by touching the pillow and squishing it as much as we could. Next, we learned the word hard, we passed around sticks and  tried squishing them but we just couldn’t  do it. The more challenging it got, the harder the material. We will have more activities about hard and soft as we go along with our lessons this week.

Music is always a big part of Buds class so we always want to integrate our topics with music activities. Today, we were asked about the sticks that we could use to make a sound. The conversation went on something like:

John: What sound will it make if I hit two sticks together.

R and E clicked their tongues.

When we tried it, it was indeed like a clicking sound.

John: How about if we change one stick with a pillow.

H and D made a sound similar to “HA”

After trying it, it was a bit like that too.

John: Okay, let’s try stick to plastic containers.

Everybody made a big bang sound!

It was really loud!

John: So, we can try metal pans and sticks.

Everybody replied, “ting, ting”.

And the sound it made was just like that.

We then distributed the sticks to everyone and started making music with our friends and teachers. How we love trees and they gave us the  sticks that  we could use for today.

Before washing our hands, we learned how to count with our fingers. We are all trying our very best  to associate numbers and quantity together.

Thank you so much Ohana for another marvelous day. See you all again tomorrow. Lots of love, Buds class children
