Let it Snow!

Yes– it did snow in our classroom! No, we’re not kidding!

Before we began our circle time, we sang our “Good Morning” song, and Pauline sang some silly things like “Pat your nose” and “Say ‘A-CHOOO!’” which made us giggle. After that, we reviewed some colors. She had some round beanbags, and she asked us what color they were. R was quick to identify them: blue, yellow, red, and green. We tried to search and match the beanbags with the things our friends were wearing. First, we tried to match the yellow beanbag with our masks.

“Is it the same color as…. H’s mask?” Pauline asked.

“No,” H answered.

“Same as R’s mask?” R shook her head no.

“Same as….. R’s mask?”

“Yes!” we all replied.

“Blue… H’s shoes,” H said, pointing to the blue beanbag and her shoes. She’s right! They also match!

“How about red?” Pauline asked. “Do you see someone wearing color red?”

“A,” A said, pointing to his cardigan. We also pointed to Sayaka and Kai, because they were wearing red Ohana jackets. S excitedly pointed out to Kai that her socks were also red.

Next, we looked for anyone who was wearing green. We pointed to Pauline’s jacket, and R pointed to the dragon on his sweater.

After that, we did some tearing activity to exercise the muscles in our hands and fingers and work on our fine motor skills. We had some tissue paper in the different colors we reviewed. Our teachers showed us how to tear them into small pieces. We had fun doing just that and we put it in a big red box. Finally, when our teachers thought we had enough pieces of tissue paper, Pauline asked us to sit in a circle, and Sayaka handed us some fans. Pauline told us that she will count from 1 to 3 and when she says “Go!”, we need to fan the piled– up pieces of paper. Our first attempt failed, but on the second attempt, together with Kai’s help, we were able to fan it upwards, so it looked like we were in the middle of a beautiful, colorful, snowfall! We cheered and giggled excitedly while we were doing this. Sayaka took a video of us, and the teachers will send it to everyone later this evening! It was so much fun!

We didn’t have enough time to go to the park today, so the teachers borrowed the foam slide and stairs from Buds, and they laid out our tactile path again. The back of our classroom transformed into a playground! We enjoyed sliding down and chasing each other while balancing on the tactile path.

“H.. Hungry!” H told us. Pauline told her she was also hungry, so she wanted to eat…. Us! Uh– oh!

We also had our earthquake drill today while we were having snacks, and some of our friends were in the toilet. We heard the earthquake alarm and our teachers told us calmly to go under the table because there was “Jishin desu. Earthquake.” After that, we put on our shiny, silver helmets and followed Sayaka downstairs. Pauline was the last to leave as she checked the classroom and made sure the doors were open.

When we all got downstairs, the teachers double– checked our numbers, and we were done! Yay! We did a great job that we thought it deserved a little pictorial.

Free play time was a blast, as the back of the room was busy with Lego blocks that A had requested to play with. We were busy making our own houses and cars. At the big table, we made arts and crafts with Kai, and we made some pretty jars. We used glue to stick pieces of colorful tissue paper on it, then we decorated it with pompoms, too. This will be perfect for a warm, cozy winter holiday celebration— we can put in some scented candles or fairy lights in it.

That concludes our Wednesday– how about you? How was your day?

Love,
