Happy Wednesday everyone! We were a bit surprised when we came into our classroom today. Nimo whom we always say good morning to was nowhere in sight! On the other hand, Erika greeted us, and we asked Vieda, “Why is Erika here? Where is Nimo?”.  We learned that today and tomorrow are the days when some of the homeroom teachers will spend some time with other classes. Ke said that Erika is someone from Buds Class, while Ki said that “she is all day in Buds”.  And not only that, Ke and So from Petals joined our snack time as well. Later in the afternoon, two of our friends will have lunch with Shelley in the office, and then Shelley will come for an experiment with us. Today was indeed a special Wednesday!

MORNING ACTIVITIES

Erika and Liezel helped us to work on our turkey headbands.  We cut up the pieces to make wings from the flour and salt painting that we did weeks ago. We carefully followed the lines to cut the wing pieces for our turkey headband. We are so proud to see how they had turned out! We are so excited to that day when we can put them on our heads!

On the other table, we heard Ke and Ak getting so excited as they made some things with bubble wrap and colored construction papers. As we checked what they made, Ki happily said, “I made maguro and egg sushi. I like ikura, too so I made one. White paper, please for my ika!”. Am mentioned that she has not eaten sushi yet, so we showed her some pictures. When Ch said, “Ah, I know what I’m going to make! I’m going to make my favorite “chu toro!”. Upon hearing that, Am got so excited and said, “Yes! I know that! That’s in a movie. I know Totoro!!!’. Her friends explained to Am that Totoro is not food like chu toro sushi. She paused for some time and then said, “I’ve got an idea!’. When finished, she showed us her original sushi that was made of carrots, tomatoes, and cheese on top of rice. Yum! Yum! Yum!

CIRCLE TIME

Nimo talked about something that refers to the cut on our skin when we trip or fall over yesterday. We know that it is something that comes in our head when we think about ouchy or painful. As a hint, Ch wrote the first letter of it which was /w/, then Vieda wrote /d/ for the last letter. What word could it be? We made a few guesses but were not able to guess it correctly. Then, Ad said, “/d/ sound is in my name”. Words that have the same beginning sound as /d/ started to come in mind, so Vieda gave us each a turn to share our word.

            Yu: Daddy!                                 Ke: dragon

            Ka: dog                                        Ch: donkey

            Am: duck                                   Ka: dirty

Me dust                                      Ma: Donkey Kong. He’s a gorilla!

K: dance                                   Ke: day    Ak: December

Vieda did not reveal the answer yet as we went to do our calendar with the help of our calendar leaders, Yu and K. After that, Akira read the question of the day for us. We tried to count the number of friends we had on each column without using our fingers! Am wrote 3 and A wrote 10 for us. Now, the trick question began!

            Vieda: Which is bigger?

             Ri: 10!
Vieda: How many can you add to 3 to make it 10?

            Y: 7. I did 3 fingers first then I count to 10, then I know!

Me: Thank you Teacher Yuiko! I love you!

Vieda: Can you show me how you can make 10?

            Ad: With these hands. 5 + 5 makes 10!

Am: I use both hands for 7 and 10.

Ke I look at the small board. I see (10) and (3). I think if you add everything you will get 10+3=13.

QUESTION of the DAY: Do you like to see blood?

Here are some of our ideas behind our answer to the question:

Yes, we do like to see blood:

K: Because I like blood and because it’s funny!

Ch: Because it’s not dangerous. It’s okay to see blood.

Ri: Because I don’t like ti and so I like to wash hands.

No, we do not like to see blood?

Ka: Like Kimetsu no Yaeba. If there is so many bloods, we can’t see our friends.

Me: Ka is right! Because I want to go home.

Am: I don’t like seeing blood because I can get dirty.

Ak: We cannot see friend. If the small “kids” go to your mouth and your body gets a lot of hole. And your body gets a lot of holes!  It’s really sad.

U: I’ve seen blood before and didn’t like it because it hurts.

After a fun-filled time at the park, we went back to Flowers and continued our discussion about “wound”. Ch was able to guess the big word! Way to go, Ch!

            Vieda: What is a wound?

            Ke: Like…one day?

Yu:  It looks like a (magic) wand!

Vieda: Do you remember the word Nimo mentioned that are used by adults, instead of saying ouchie?

            Ka Pain!

Vieda: That’s correct! Most young children say, “Ouchie!” when they are in pain.

Ke: Or Buds children cry instead of saying ouchie!

Vieda: Why do you think blood comes when you get cut?

Yu It flows to take out the rock and sand from our body when we get a cut.

Vieda asked us to look at Am’s question that is written in her wonder wall paper. It says, “When does the blood stop coming out?”. Vieda took out an old blanket that we imagined as our leg. As this “leg” was running around, it tripped and got a cut. Vieda cut a bit of the blanket and explained that our body is so amazing that it can heal the cut and wound all by itself! We ran out of time so we will talk about it next time.

 Experiment with Shelley

Shelley came to Flowers with paper towels. She folded several pieces into long and thin objects. We know that it was a rectangle! We can name objects that have a similar shape as well.

Ch: snack                         A; Tokyo Tower

            Yu: worm                                     M: M&M box

Ad: parking line                        Ke: Eiffel Tower

            Am: sticks                               Ke: Sky Tree

Me seemed to be so interested in colors when she asked, “If you mix orange and blue, what’s going to happen?”.

As Shelley put the long and thinly folded paper towels in the cups filled with dyed water, she asked, “Can paper drink?’.  Of course not! We looked closely at the paper towels and it seemed like magic as they slowly became the same color as the liquid where they are dipped in. This “magic” made us think what made the color travel to the paper towels?

Shelley: What is liquid? Can you give me examples?

Am: water

Ke: gasoline

Ka: beer

Ch: ginger ale and coffee

Kei: wine

Am: green tea

Shelley left the cups with paper towels in our room. Ak and Ad were so engrossed at them that during quiet time, they decided to watch them and drew how they turned out! We are wondering if they would look the same tomorrow! We are so excited to see how these paper towels would look like tomorrow!

 Love,
