Our Earth

August 30th

The sun shined down on us so brightly yesterday, we naturally expected the next day to be another sunny day. However we woke up to the sound of heavy rain pounding on our roofs. Although the sky is dark and can look a little gloomy, rainy days are just as fun as sunny days! It is a bummer that we can’t go to the park, but there is plenty of things to do in the classroom instead. Excited for another fantastic day, we entered our classrooms and took care of our daily routines.

Our morning free play time is a lot like breakfast, as it is the most important play/meal of the day. So much happens in the morning and so many learning opportunities. This morning we continued with the handprint art and on the other table we had finger puppets out for everyone to play with. Out on the carpet area we had the toy Shinkansen set out and our friends made a very long railway for the super fast train. Our kitchen toys were once again super popular among petals. As usual around 9:30ish we started to pack away our toys to have another short music session with the Ukulele.

Before we started singing we started with some warm ups. Today we focused on the A-E-I-O-U sounds. We worked on opening our mouths wide for A, making a smiling face for I, and making an O with our mouths for the letter O. We also did something similar to yesterday where we breathe in through our nose and we make long sounds. Once our warm ups were done we sang, “How are you Today” song. Nimo would call us one by one to sing how we were feeling. We had lots of friends who were happy and we also had a few friends who were feeling angry, sad, and hungry, but we knew they were happy because they couldn't stop smiling. After a few more songs we needed to get ready for snack time. Nimo asked us why we should wash our hands.

Nimo: Why do we need to wash our hands?

E: It’s dirty

A: Dirty and then get germs in the hand

AD: Germs in In the mouth then Tummy gets angry

Nimo: But why do we need to use soap?

A: because we need it to wash your hand. Because if you don’t wash your hand your tummy will get ouchie

Nimo: What do you think happens with the bubbles in soap?

A: the bubbles are eating the germs for us

It’s important for us to wash our hands so we don’t end up getting sick. We definitely don’t want to feel ill and be stuck in bed while we could be playing.

For our circle time today, Nimo wanted to talk about where we live, but it’s a place that’s bigger than Tokyo, bigger than Japan and the Americas. It was a place that’s round like a ball and we call it Earth.

Ad: The Earth is round like a ball… Can we play with it?

L: You can sleep on the moon! (can see the moon when it’s bedtime)

A: I like the earth

Ak: Me too!

H: Me too!

O: The earth wants to take care of us

Nimo: What happens when we don’t take care of the earth?

O: Then the earth won’t take care of us

A: We have no more Earth

After the story we went to the Trash Bin we have in class and talked a little about garbage and how we can keep our Earth clean and happy.

Nimo: What’s this?

E: Trash bin

Nimo: What do we put here?

E: Trash

Nimo: Do you think it’s ok not to put the trash in the bin and throw it on the street?

O: No the Earth will be sad.

Nimo: Do you know what recycle means?

U: I know recycle!... It means… recycle

We talked about how we can wash and put things in the unburnable bin to have them recycled so we can use them again instead of making new plastic.

Our first week of school went by in a flash and we are heading into the weekend. Our after-school classes will start next week so we are finally getting into the full swing of things! See yall again next week!

Love,
